You jest, but the squirrels here should be assumed "armed and dangerous". Don't look em in the eye and walk swiftly on.

Re: What tracks are these?

The best defined print seems to have 5 toes and a fairly pointed rear to the main pad - otter is a possibility (and would be the right sort of size). Good shout jmarkb. I have visited that area many times and never seen an otter but I know they are there. What I have seen a lot of around there is p...

What tracks are these?

Hello all, hopefully someone will help solve this mystery. Was out walking behind the house last week, south of Foyers on the Dell Estate, and came across these tracks frozen on the surface of a lochan. They look feline to me, sorry now I didn't put something next to them for scale, but they were 45...

Re: Walking the CWT at close to 60yrs - shorter daily walkin

The first section, F.Wiliiam, Cona Glen, Glenfinnan, Knoydart, to Shiel Bridge is one of the longest sections without possibility to get supplies. And also one of the hardest as I recall, which doesn't help if you're just getting your legs into the walk. I didn't send any supplies ahead, I'm not tha...

Re: positive mental attitude

I normally just go for it weather be damned. Not that I'm especially hardcore or ballsy, but I figure a day out is always better than a day in, and there is a perverse satisfaction of having completed a walk when the weather is shouting "stay in and do the sodding crossword you idiot!" It'...

Re: Scottish National trail advice please?

Regarding the hygiene issue: Took me 5 weeks to walk from Lindisfarne to Cape Wrath and I stayed in 2 bnbs in the first week, mainly because my mother accompanied me. After Melrose, I think I had 2 showers, 1 at a friends in Fort William, and 1 at the campsite in Shiel Bridge. I'll share a top tip t...

Re: Scottish National trail advice please?

I used print outs from this website for the Borders/Lowlands section. Then instead of doing the East Highland Way, I carried on up the WHW to Fort William (no need for maps on the WHW, just follow the trail of tissue and wetwipes) and then did the CWT in full. I had brought all OS maps with me until...

Re: It never stops

Going over the Saddle would be a great finish I reckon! Kinloch Hourn to Shiel Bridge is a good days trot the easy way, but would be stunning to take in the peaks instead. Sounds like an epic!

Re: It never stops

That sounds doable in 8 days for sure. Instead of looping back to Glenfinnan, why not hoof it up the South Shiel Ridge from Quoich and finish in Shiel Bridge? Easy bus connection back from there.

Was up at Loch Quoich yesterday:

Re: It never stops

I would definitely plan 2 days from Fort W to Glenfinnan via Cona Glen. The walk south along the road from where the passenger ferry drops you to the foot of Cona Glen is incredibly wearing with a full pack, and full your pack should be if you are off to Knoydart. Plenty of places to pitch up once y...

Re: Walk report of the month is back! £150 to win each month

Hello!

Might be a daft question, but are there time constraints for when the walk was done? I'm guessing the report should be for a walk done in said month, but just checking!
