Craigenreoch

From near the Nick of Balloch on the minor road to the north east. Just beyond the cattle grid shown on the 1:25000 to the east of Brandy Well there is a wide enough passing place where there is room to park. From there walk a short way NW up the road to pick up a rough vehicle track (shown on the 1...

Moel Cynghorion and Moel Eilio

A circular walk from the camp site to the south of the Youth Hostel in Llanberis. The round can be done in a long half day, but today was one for lingering - no wind, sunshine and an inversion to the west. What a day for October in the UK! Followed the road south from the camp site, through an untid...

Beinn na Caillich and Sgurr na Coinnich

I was staying at Glenelg and was keen to bag the P600, Sgurr na Coinnich. A ferry runs during the summer across the narrows of Kyle Rhea between the mainland and the Isle of Skye. This is a popular tourist route run by the local community and the first ferry (at the time of writing) is at 10am. The ...

Cearnabhal, Liuthaid and other bumps

Walked from my accommodation at Ardvourlie to the track at Loidse Ath Linne. I followed this almost to its high point and then made for Beinn a' Mhuill. The ground is quite rough and wet. But it was worth getting to this point because the view down Loch Seaforth is rather good. On the ascent of this...

Ceapabhal (Harris)

Parking at the road end at Northton is very limited and becoming a little contentious.

Followed the WH route down but on the ascent just went straight up (not taking the left fork) and passing through a sheepfold. The ground was dry, if steep, but straightforward.

Stulabhal and Uisgneabhal Mòr

Through walk from Bowglass on A859 to B887 east of Gleann Mhiabhaig where a pick up had been arranged.. So not quite the WH route. Up NE ridge of Stulabhal. Scrambling on Teileasbhal easily avoided via grassy rakes (each to the left) on ascent and descent. Bog trot on descent from Uisgneabhal Mòr wa...

Ben Aigan

From spot height 241 on the minor road to the south of the hill. At this point, there is room off the road to park a car. The path starts in the northeast corner of this area - not immediately obvious/promising. But the way soon becomes obvious, and the path takes you up through the trees. On emergi...

Knock of Crieff

An easy, straightforward walk from the upper car park behind the Crieff Hydro - done as an interlude to our journey further north. From the car park we followed the track north east. We ignored the marked path after about 600m and 50/60m further on there was an informal path that took us in a southe...

The Storr

A bag en route to the ferry at Uig.

From the tourist car park, through the hordes up to the Instagram selfie spot and then beyond via the direct route.

1 hour 15 minutes up. 50 minutes down. Cloud cleared when I was at the summit :D

Plynlimon (Pumlumon Fawr) and other hills

A round of Nant-y-moch Reservoir taking in 4 Marilyns over approximately 29kms with around 1400m of ascent. Parked at Eisteddfa Gurig where there is a £5 charge for the day. Route involved Pumlumon Fawr (Plynlimon) - Pumlumon Fach - Banc Llechwedd-mawr - Drosgol - round the north western end of the ...

Deuchar Law and Dun Rig

Started and finished at Traquair Kirk in Kirkhouse. There seems to be no objection to parking in the church car park which lies to the south of the turn off to Glen House. From the car park walk a short way to the Southern Upland Way. This provides a gentle ascent through pasture land with occasiona...

Wether Law

I parked on a grass verge at the start of the road up to Romanno Mains at the north end of Romannobridge. Apparently it may also be possible to park at the cemetery. I walked through the housing estate on the Cross Borders Drove Road and continued on this to the south of Romanno Mains. The walking i...
