Re: Pennine Way Plus

Great read Gordie, brings back many memories. The scones at Bellingham, the world cup final at Greenhead, The Stag at Dufton and the first view of High Cup Nick. We been walking in Tenerife in the Anaga region, pretty sure you would love it.

Re: Wainwright's Coast to Coast (The Sequel)

Hi Gordie,
Loved the report brought back happy memories of when me and Arlene did it a few years ago. Ah, Angle tarn, is it always like that ( our wettest day of the walk) . Over Nine Standards is always boggy, but you can't keep a good walker down.
Thanks for the mems.

Re: Stone Stacking Condemned - Opinions

Hi all, I believe we have had this discussion before and heard the views of many of our walker fraternity. Some are not too bothered while others view it as the end of civilisation as we now it  . I suggest, not without some type of backlash  that we should take a more middle of the road...

Re: Picos de Europa

Hi Lmitch, Lonely planet or even booking.com may have a few ideas. I believe Cicerone have a guide to walking in the Cantabrian Mountains ( Cordillera Cantabrica ) of which the Picos are a part of, they also highlight places to stay. But besides that have never walked there myself. Canaries,Belearic...

Re: Full traverse of south Glencoe ridges, with high level b

Hi H2G, Great read and great pics. I love the description of the morning of the golden light, indeed it is staggering. Some of our most favourite moments when camping high in the hills is to wake up with a clear sky above us where the air is still and oh so fresh. And then to watch as the sun rises ...

Re: End to End. The last Chapter.

Hi Gordie, Ever thought about bribery, the odd box of chocolates, bottle of bubbly or a nice hotel every 200 miles ...might work :D Off to Majorca to walk the GR222 Arta to LLuc in Oct. Nice to have the sun on one's back and a nice glass of ice cold beer and goodies at the end of a day's walk.

Re: Lady Anne's Way

Great report and sense of humour I love. Looks like you had great weather. The flags reminded me of the time we walked the cobbler and as we drove through Tarbet we were met by dozens of people waving flags. Like you I didn't realise we walkers were that famous ( the olympic touch was just behind us...

End to End. The last Chapter.

And now the end is near and so we faced the final curtain....you know how it goes . Yes we've now walked each and every highway from Lands End to John O'Groats ( well not exactly every highway but you get the gist). Traversing in total over 1450 miles or 2330Km and seen some pretty amazing sig...

Re: Tremendous Teide - Mount Teide, 3718m / 12,198ft

We did walk so far and had a good view of Pico Viejo but didn't get to the top of Teide. A couple of days ago we walked down from Erjos to Low Silos about seven and a half miles with spectacular scenery. Unfortunately my right knee stop gave me a wee bit of bother but seems to be improving. Off to w...

Re: Tremendous Teide - Mount Teide, 3718m / 12,198ft

Great report. We are in Tenerife at the moment 29/1/19, been up to Teide today....... by bus and cable car .... the views were amazing and the weather hot, although there was some snow last week. Yesterday we walked from La Portillo down to Los Realejos a descent of about 6000ft ( blue skies to star...

Tenerife roaming

:( Well we're retired now, so it's time to spend a bit more time away than usual to discover a few more walking destinations in Europe. To begin we decided to spend a month away in Tenerife in Jan/Feb 2018 and so I planned accordingly i.e scouring my Cicerone Walking in Tenerife guidebook and checki...

Re: stone stacking on beaches, bad or ok?

Is this, (taken while walking coast to coast across Scotland, 2015)
DSCF6334.JPG
really as bad
P1030434.JPG
as this, taken while walking the length of Scotland, 2018)

Spot the stacked stones, or according to some the litter. I'll leave you to make your own mind up.

Re: stone stacking on beaches, bad or ok?

I do apologize if I've upset anyone with my comments. But surely it's all a matter of perspective. I am certainly not encouraging any and all to go out and build little piles of stones ( never done it myself don't see the point). But are you really staining the landscape by picking up a few natural,...
