I’ve had two of those OS 1:50000 bespoke maps made, the first i had centred at Grid Reference NN 450300 near Crainlarich, it does away with the four maps that meet awkwardly around Ben More. The second i had centred at Grid Reference NG 020740 in Torridon as i never liked how Liathach and Beinn Eigh...

Re: Photo Competition

In the interest of fairness…… Is it fair X has a top of the range DSLR, Y has a point and shoot and Z a camera phone. Of course not its just life. ……please declare if you have used photo editing software. How will declaring use of an editing program make anything more fair. Are points going to be d...

Re: The Most Remote Hills In Scotland ?

Anyone care to add, I'd be happy to see more ideas :) If an approach by water along Loch Mullardoch is excluded i’d vote Mullach na Dheiragain as one of the remotest hills. A round of MnD, its neighbour Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan along with all their tops would be up there in my top ten best walks. A ...

Re: Compass Bubbles

I’ve got two silva compasses, same model, one never develops bubbles but in the second a bubble often forms in cold weather/winter, its never bothered me as the bubble always disappears when back in the house and warmed up to room temperature. It’s known that high altitude climbers can suffer tootha...

Damn, i wish you’d replied before i’d posted :? you’ve just given me another angl...

Re: Photo Editing

I mangle my photos in Gimp which is free. Its got its quirks but on the whole i find it easy to use. I started with Gimp intending to upgrade when i reached its limitations, but over a couple of years of use i’ve come to realise what a powerful and versatile tool it is.

Re: Trig point removal

I was trying to find information on the status of these blocks of reinforced concrete left on top of our hills…… Anyone come across anything on this. Some have a plaque on stating its an offence to damage it. I don’t want them removed, they are the most reliable (know exactly where i‘m at) identifi...

Re: Cows kill woman

I wish i hadn’t read this thread, now i’ll be getting paranoid when i come across cattle. In over 25 years hill walking in Scotland i’ve never had a bad experience with highland cows. If possible i keep my distance but sometimes as i found in Glen Elchaig they are often on the path and unavoidable. ...
