Re: Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach

Crackin picture Orosay. Did you manage to get above the clouds? I was on Ben Macdui today and to the west it looked like only Ben Nevis and Aonach Beag were poking out of the clouds. Got a Brocken Spectre myself today but not very clear. Some great fogbows on Macdui and Cairngorm though. Cheers :D ...

Re: Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach

Well, went clockwise in the end and quite glad really, fantastic views when we needed an excuse for a wee rest and saw one of these for the first time 19840731-1038-48CB-A963-FD6F1EEC657E.jpeg which was exciting. The descent down the boggy path was not so nice and would have been more tedious on the...

Affric

Glen Affric is lovely and the big mountains above it to the north looked great from Toll Creagan last year, so I had always fancied going back. It was a lovely day 3C6426F5-8F33-4EB3-9672-C8FFF1882A7F.jpeg Had a nice walk along the loch for about 4or5 km ADA21A15-173F-40FC-AAA8-499A170C723A.jpeg The...

Re: deer flies - keds

[quote="grumpy old bagger"]Anybody know much about keds?

Well something bit me at Mam Sodhail yesterday and I am 99% sure it was one of these, even drew blood, although I didn’t feel it at all! Keeping an eye on it and will report back if my arm falls off!

Re: Weather apps

Thanks folks, bbc does seem a wee bit more accurate and it’s only rain I am looking at! Hadn’t seen mountain forecasts.com before and it looks quite good, certainly fairly accurate for today. Planning Fannichs tomorrow and it looks promising, but it hardly ever rains there anyway!!

Weather apps

I normally use Met office for forecasts but started to notice that it isn’t very accurate around chances of rain and the BBC weather seems more accurate. Pretty sure it used to be the other way round. I do use MWIS but it’s a bit “Broad” - I would like to know if it’s going to be better in assynt th...

Re: Seventy (!!) parking fines issued at Loch Lomond

Considerate parking shouldn’t be hard. It just involves a bit of planning and possibly luck to avoid disrupting others. I'm not so sure. I was in Torridon on Saturday and there were plenty of people parking in passing places. Whilst they shouldn't be doing this the infrastructure along the NC500 sh...

Beinn Eighe, best day!

After Alligin last week we were getting confident around the bigger stuff. With a great forecast we decided to go for Beinn Eighe. We left early and arrived around 8am, but still couldn’t get into the car park, where there lots of camper vans. Parked on the verge facing back east and headed up Coire...

Deer Keds

I have seen these strange “flat” flies before, more like winged mites than flies. On Quinag yesterday we were plagued by them and I have just found out what they are! No sign of any bites and I am curious to know whether anyone has much experience of being bitten or are they more of an unpleasant nu...

Geal charn mor

After Beinn Eighe yesterday we wanted to rest the knees with a shorter walk. This one looked a bit tame but turned out to be really nice. Very hot day and after a pleasant stroll through some woods the path climbed quite steeply on to the moor $matches[2] Great views of the Cairngorms looking 82A80A...

Beinn Ailligin - first giant and notes for beginners!!

Ellen has always wanted to do one of the Torridon big three and after getting a bit fitter we decided that this would be the day! Forecast was for warm weather (hot actually, 25 degrees) and strong winds higher up. The trip took a bit of last minute planning and I then somehow managed to impale my c...

Re: Beinn liath mor, achnashellach

Thanks for the advice, looks like a great hill, but didn’t fancy a completely trackless slog up to the ridge, I was imagining something like Ailligin! This sounds fine though, and looking forward to it.

Ben Macdui

Another nice day at Aviemore, so forced youngest son into the car to go and climb Ben Macdui. Started off from funicular car park ( open today) along the great path to Miadan Creag an leth- choin. Good views back along the lairig ghru 4DB5E987-60D1-42F1-887B-A113C2E2ABAE.jpeg . A bit further and Bra...

Beinn liath mor, achnashellach

How long and steep is the climb to the ridge? Is there a path?
