Re: Your favourite golden eagle encounters

For me they are are the ultimate Highland species I concur, and ironically my favourite/best goldie sighting was near A'Mhaighdean. We were traversing the rarely frequented ridge of Beinn Tharsuinn Chaol when I startled a goldie a mere 5-10 metres away. Watched it fly away towards Beinn lair. Later...

Re: Ben alder parking

As an alternative, cycling in from the north (Laggan side) is a really nice approach and a bit more interesting than the Dallwhinnie approach imho. Layby on the east bound side near Inverpattick Lodge.

Re: Interesting, but will it ever happen

Could become the most expensive section of road in Scotland? From memory the current record holder is the short section of A9 at Killiecrankie?

Re: Ladhar Bhienn from Inverie

It's a fine circuit. We did the route in a clockwise direct, doing Ladhar Bhienn first, I remember some mild scrambling coming off Ladhar Bhienn, towards Bealach Coire Dhorrcail. We had the dog with us and she managed fine. The walk along Aonach Sgoilte was grand but we stayed on the ridge and added...

Re: Bagging Munros During CWT

Having done the CWT myself, I passed by so many Corbetts I need, alas I wanted to focus on completing the trail so switched my bagger beacons off  On reflection, there is one or two I wish I had done. 1 b. I would be inclined to stick to the NE ridge until it levels out, and then make a descend...

Re: Is there still snow on stuchd an lochain

The snow line is around 850m, the SAIS website is really useful to gauge snow conditions.

Re: Feedback requested: 3-day route Cairngorms

I’m liking Hiiker at the moment, the Pro+ plan has all the mapping you need. 8)

Re: Sleeping bag recommendation needed

To be honest, most modern down bags have a water resistant coating on the outer and or hydrophobic treatment on the feathers, so they can handle a bit of condensation. It’s only prolonged contact or submerged in water when it becomes an issue. Pop your sleeping bag in a dry bag inside your rucksack ...

Re: Glenfinnan to Sourlies Bothy to Inverie

There’s a mix of good paths and boggy sections but there is also at least 2 river crossings that would be problematic in spate conditions.

Walkhighlands covers this section on the Cape Wrath Trail section: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cape-wrath-trail.shtml

Re: Ice free summits?

The Grahams or Corbetts can quite often be snow free. Even the Donalds are quite benign even with a dusting of snow.

Re: Sleeping bag recommendation needed

I would go for a down bag, much lighter and packable than synthetic. You have to be pretty reckless to get a down bag wet tbh. A temperature rating of around 0c would be my recommendation. Alpkit are worth a look, the Pipedream 400 would have you covered for all 3 season use. 8)

Re: Feedback requested: 3-day route Cairngorms

Ben Macdui - Komoot says there is no direct route between Carn a'Mhaim and Ben Macdui and steers us all the way east and around, so I deleted Carn a'Mhaim on the route. But I read there is a path on the ridge over between the two? -Optional: Derry Cairngorm A good route, but Carn a'Mhaim can be com...

Re: Best Portable Charger for Everest Base Camp Treck

Many days is the trip? Usually can’t go wrong with Anker powerbanks, a 20000 mAh each should about do I reckon if your phones are on flight mode. I would probably carry spare batteries for the GoPro. I tend to use 1 battery a day when vlogging.

Re: Oban Bothy

The estate put a stop to boat trips in, which was unfortunate. We used it to stay there and bag the two remote Grahams. 8)
