Re: Ben Lawers Hotel Open?

On that note, if you're taking the hydrotrack would you still do the circuit counter-clockwise like the walkhighlands route suggests? I would recommend that, if only on the grounds that the N side of An Stuc is easier in ascent than descent. There are several options for the descent off Ben Lawers:...

Re: landslip GR NN 85050 91330 (The red house to Glen Feshie

Seems to have drifted onto a different area of the path from the one that the original post was about. The Chris Townsend article does cover the one that Axel was asking about further up the glen, as well as the Allt Garbhlach crossing. Other question, what are the snow conditions on Cairngorms act...

Re: Inverarnan to Crianlarich via the Crianlarich Munros

Most obvious would be to go up the normal (boggy!) route from Inverarnan to Beinn Chabhair, then onto An Caisteal and down the normal (Twisting Hill) route. The easiest descent from Beinn Chabhair goes S for about 200m before turning NE down a grassy shelf. From the col, there is a faint path headin...

Re: Grey Corries conditions....?

I would take at least the spikes. The snow will be mainly a thin cover of recent snow, an you probably won't use them, but it is hard to entirely rule out old patches, icy rocks or foot-compressed new snow on paths.

Re: Feedback and advice on my route planning.

Welcome to the WH forums! Looks like a good plan overall. A few suggestions for you: It's quite a long/tough route for a week - I would suggest missing out the first bit by using a bus from Inverness to Tomatin, or bus/train to Carrbridge. If you have a spare day at the end, climbing Schiehallion wo...

Re: Ryvoan Bothy and Lochan Uaine in the April Sunshine

Yes, the ones 'in a treacherous landscape, and because they offer a false sense of security'. If you have an opinion or know more then you could write it up as your first contribution to this site. I'd be interested. The OP told us about Cairngorm John so I might give that a look, but I think the p...

Re: Route to Creag Meagaidh

Edit: there are some buggy tracks to follow. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2254080
You can trace them on the OS aerial imagery - they actually go most of the way to Carn Liath.

Looks like a mixture of grass and heather - nothing too awful: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XSpmYMss3wexGAYVA

Re: Ben Aden / Loch Quoich Levels

The burns will be fine if there has been no significant rainfall in the previous 48 hours.

Re: Carn Etchachan Route

Definitely shorter and easier from the north - follow one of the normal routes to Ben Macdui from the ski centre as far as Lochan Buidhe and then contour round, crossing the Garbh Uisge Beag and Garbh Uisge Mor (can easily include Macdui to make a more satisfying day). The E side of the hill is stee...

AspiringHiker wrote:Thanks, I was considering that option. How is the ground on that route? Is it bracken, heather or grass?

I’m not too sure: the only time I have been up that way was on skis with snow cover down to the road!

Re: Recent snowconditions Knoydart

I don’t think you will need winter gear: we have had a very snow poor winter and it is currently very mild. Take a look at the SAIS blogs for an idea of the current snow cover: https://www.sais.gov.uk/

Re: Route to Creag Meagaidh

It is possible to leave the road about 1.5km SE of Garva Bridge and head up to the trig point on Carn Dubh, then all the way along the ridge to Carn Liath. It will be pathless, though and I’m not sure if a high level route would suit your plans.
