Snowdon February sunbathing session! (200 UP!)

It's been a while! After walking and squelching through Wales' less glamorous peaks over the last couple of years, I'd saved Snowdon for a special occasion. But it wasn't a ticking mission as I'd been to the top of Wales as a kid with school so I'd need to take on the horseshoe to bring up hewitt no...

Re: Rhobell Fawr & Dduallt

That forest on Dduallt brings back bad memories! I remember we drove up the forestry road out of Rhydymain past the end of the road shown on the map. Few gates to open and voila ended up parking pretty much next to the sign post for Dduallt! Quick up and down of Rhobell Fawr and then a horrible mudd...

Fan Y Big and Waun Rydd

Still on the mission to finish the Welsh Hewitts before summer, I saw the beautiful weather forecasted and decided to take on a couple of Brecon Beacons previously missed. New_Route.gpx Parking up over a 1000 foot up at the Blaen y Glyn car park in the Talybont Forest, it does make an easy start! No...

Re: Kentmere Round

Hi AK It was a walk in homage to the Fellwarking with Wainwright (incorrectly named in my first post!) book rather than a ticking mission so I wasn't too worried about some of the Haweswater outliers on this one but know what you mean.Missed out on a few obvious there-and-backers. But well worth exp...

Re: Carmarthen Fan from the North

Not seen them from this angle before so thanks for the pictures! Did a staggered traverse of these along with the Fforest Fawr and main Brecon Beacon a few years ago. Wonderfully quiet and a great place to stretch the legs across some super open country. Coldest walk I've ever been on! Are the hurdl...

Re: Coledale Round - March 2018

Cracking day out. And the second post I've seen on the bounce for this route today, so others must agree! Although I came back via the knobbly Causey Pike, either way it makes a nice day out. Not sure if you are a Hewitt bagger but the walk out to Wandope before returning up Eel Crag (Crag Hill) fro...

Re: Western Fells round of 11 Hewitts in dramatic weather

Decent old route that - just the standard Coledale Round was enough for me! Fair play to you sir. The path on Sail is 'interesting'. No place on a hill side but equally quite sculptural though  I hate it so much I quite like it perversely. I reckon with a few years erosion and soil creep the pa...

Kentmere Round

Sorry this is one from last year that doesn't have a GPX file but hopefully is so well documented by others you'll let me off! A classic walk, chapter 2 in the Wainwright Great Walks I was given as a 10 or so year old that got me into these bloody hills in the first place. Parking. Very much at a pr...

Re: Dyfi Hills (the cheats method!)

Poppiesrara Well spotted! Despite a trip up the pyg track when I was 12, it was always the intention to complete all of Wales' hewitts on the horseshoe even though Snowdon was officially ticked off! North Wales involves lot of driving around picking off the odd one here and there. Mid Wales (specifi...

Re: Dyfi Hills (the cheats method!)

Cheers AK as ever Did think of completing my Arans scrapbook on Pen y Bryfforchog but the Guinness World Record for blister size started to open up on both of my feet at once (new boots and being hopelessly flat footed) so was glad to get back to the car! Not many left in Wales now! PyB will need to...

Re: Berwyns: Foel Cwm-Sian Llwyd

I could sum that walk up in one word, but decency stops me form doing so!

I went up FCSL on a very windy, wet day in November about 4 years ago with my (at the time) 5 year old son. He still hasn't forgiven me

One to go up once and once only!
