Re: Y Garn (the Rhinogs one!!!)

Did a 'mop up' day a few years ago that involved this particular Y Garn, Rhobell Fawr and Dduallt. Completely underestimated it on the lack of paths that were shown on the map that I had expertly planned a route on (and forestry that had been felled/replanted in various non mapped positions!). Unsur...

It seems the Howgills are popular now!

Judging by Walkhighlands, the Howgills seems a popular spot at the moment! Maybe the thought of nose to tail traffic and nightmare parking in the Lakes and Snowdonia has attracted the discerning walker to this (normally) quiet edge of Cumbria that I never knew was Cumbria 20200719084729-16142-data.g...

Re: Isolation in Plynlimon - source of the Wye & Severn

Good to see you got that one in just in time! It was a group I put off until I knew the ground would be nice and hard with frost and then it was a joyful leg stretcher! If I remember it was ultra clear on the day and it was strange to Pen y Fan and Yr Eifl from one point - not far off the whole of W...

Re: Socially distanced

In all the years I've read the reports on this very site, I'd never expect to see Warley Woods!

Lovely place - many happy memories of sledging there as a kid.

Re: Moel Siabod (again)

Perfect day AK. You can probably tell by the lack of walk reports this year I've not exactly covered a great deal of miles, so to go out on a day like this (especially with a newcomer) it's helping get the bug back! Hopefully back out this weekend to mop up 3 of my remaining 4 unclaimed Welsh hewitt...

Moel Siabod (again)

moelsiabodfrompontcyfyng.gpx A route I've done plenty of times. Up the Daear Ddu ridge and down the East Ridge. Classic, no problems and great to introduce a mega-fit but mountain novice to Snowdonia's hills. Snow down to a fairly low level gave a decent level of interest - made it an absolutely br...

Snowdon February sunbathing session! (200 UP!)

It's been a while! After walking and squelching through Wales' less glamorous peaks over the last couple of years, I'd saved Snowdon for a special occasion. But it wasn't a ticking mission as I'd been to the top of Wales as a kid with school so I'd need to take on the horseshoe to bring up hewitt no...

Re: Rhobell Fawr & Dduallt

That forest on Dduallt brings back bad memories! I remember we drove up the forestry road out of Rhydymain past the end of the road shown on the map. Few gates to open and voila ended up parking pretty much next to the sign post for Dduallt! Quick up and down of Rhobell Fawr and then a horrible mudd...

Fan Y Big and Waun Rydd

Still on the mission to finish the Welsh Hewitts before summer, I saw the beautiful weather forecasted and decided to take on a couple of Brecon Beacons previously missed. New_Route.gpx Parking up over a 1000 foot up at the Blaen y Glyn car park in the Talybont Forest, it does make an easy start! No...

Re: Kentmere Round

Hi AK It was a walk in homage to the Fellwarking with Wainwright (incorrectly named in my first post!) book rather than a ticking mission so I wasn't too worried about some of the Haweswater outliers on this one but know what you mean.Missed out on a few obvious there-and-backers. But well worth exp...

Re: Carmarthen Fan from the North

Not seen them from this angle before so thanks for the pictures! Did a staggered traverse of these along with the Fforest Fawr and main Brecon Beacon a few years ago. Wonderfully quiet and a great place to stretch the legs across some super open country. Coldest walk I've ever been on! Are the hurdl...

Re: Coledale Round - March 2018

Cracking day out. And the second post I've seen on the bounce for this route today, so others must agree! Although I came back via the knobbly Causey Pike, either way it makes a nice day out. Not sure if you are a Hewitt bagger but the walk out to Wandope before returning up Eel Crag (Crag Hill) fro...

Re: Western Fells round of 11 Hewitts in dramatic weather

Decent old route that - just the standard Coledale Round was enough for me! Fair play to you sir. The path on Sail is 'interesting'. No place on a hill side but equally quite sculptural though  I hate it so much I quite like it perversely. I reckon with a few years erosion and soil creep the pa...
