Re: New boots!

Thanks everyone, just back from Tiso and tried the salomon quest prime, seemed good fit and will do me for most of my walking I think. After leaving shop had a look on line and saved myself £35 as well, sports direct actually do them for £109 so I cant go wrong really even if they fail me on hills ...

Re: Salomon Quest 4D GTX

I replied to another user who was looking for recommendations on boots. My Meindl Bhutan boots are brilliant. I'm on my second pair, which are now coming up for three years old and still going strong. I've also got a wide front foot and a bunion and they fit perfectly and feet blister free from the...

Re: Laser Compact All Season

Ally, Got one a year ago and very pleased with it. After some thought I went for light, outer first and Scotland proof and so far it has matched this. First night I used it was at the top of Coire Garbhlach above Glen Feshie last October in loads of wet snow then heavy rains with lots of wind and it...

Re: Rucksack

I had a Karrimor Hot Ice followed by one of the made in Sheffield POD's and wish I'd got them repaired and hung onto them. I now have an Osprey Mutant 38 which I am very pleased with. Relatively simple, works through summer to winter, weighs approx 1100g and critically available in two sizes. I can ...

Re: Garmin InReach mini or...

Everyone's level of risk is different however a satellite device for the WHW does feel like overkill. There is another post on here of a similar nature where they are looking for a method of tracking and it seems to me that the technical solution might not be the best or first thing to reach for. Th...

Re: What3words

More generally regarding this Topic. So to get the three words to use this system I looks like? that you have to obtain a Grid Reference to access this way to communicate. The only way to receive the three magic words? I am right on this, if so, I don't quite see the point of this way to get a posi...

Re: Unbending a walking pole

If you regard it as a piece of safety equipment (which is one of the reasons they come with all the paperwork) then stop using it. It is now weaker than designed and if you bend it it will only get worse.

Re: Salomon Boot Laces - They're Rubbish

While it is very clear that we all need to get out more the laces on my Meindl boots always work although no idea if you can get them as spares.

Re: Salomon Boot Laces - They're Rubbish

Add Scarpa in approach shoes and Salewa.

By the time you sort the laces and insoles out you can add £35 to the cost regardless of brand.

If you look here scot.nhs.uk/boundaries I think you will find that information readily available.

Re: Glencoe hillwalkers fined for travel violation.

I first thought they meant Health Authority boundaries, so people didn't put pressure on another Health Authority and maybe spread it to a hospital and thus infect a whole other area. But no, politicians only think of themselves, so they impose Local Council Authority boundaries on us. That is weir...

Re: Back pack for wildcamping

Yes. Plenty big enough.

Managed an overnight in the Cairngorms in October, camping high and in the snow with a 42l pack and plenty in the group managed with 35 litres.

Re: Mountain Equipment - Fitzroy Jacket

Morning, I have a Fitzroy in a large and I have been very impressed with it. I'm 6 foot with a 40 inch chest and use it mainly as the winter booster layer over shell etc. It was also brilliant while waiting for trains during the Beast from the East. The hoods great and the pockets massive. It still ...
