Re: Scafell from Mickledore

Thanks all for your responses.

If the weather is fine we'll ascend via Lords Rake, and take a view on the West Wall when we get there.

If the conditions have deteriorated at all we'll go via Foxes Rake...

Re: Scafell from Mickledore

Yes, Broad Stand was never an option, though I'm fairly certain I've done it previously. I think we'll probably give Lords Rake a go if the weather/wind are favourable, and maybe take a look at the West Wall when we get there. If it's wet, windy, or otherwise unpleasant I'll probably suggest we drop...

Re: Longest distance covered in a single day hillwalk?

I did the Lake District 3,000s event with my dad a couple of times in the late 70s/early 80s. Skiddaw, Scafell, Scafell Pike & Helvellyn. Start in Keswick at 2am, finish deadline is 10pm, back in Keswick. It's 46 miles / 74km with 10,000ft / 3,200m ascent. It took us around 15 hours I think, tho...

Scafell from Mickledore

Hi all, I'm planning a Great End, Scafell Pike, Scafell, Slight Side loop from Eskdale next month, and am wondering about the route up Scafell. The obvious [only?] route is to descend to Mickledore after Scafell Pike, and climb back up to Scafell. I've not done this route for over forty years, but r...

Re: Easiest Lakeland fell?? Advice needed please...

Well we made itII We started off with a couple of gentle walks around Grasmere/Rydal Water, Tarn Hows and a long walk in Langdale/Mickleden from our cottage near Elterwater. We then had a fairly easy walk up Latrigg one drizzly afternoon, much to our delight. He then announced that he fancied climbi...

Easiest Lakeland fell?? Advice needed please...

Hi, I'm looking for the simplest walk to a Lakeland view. It doesn't have to be a Wainwright summit, or even a summit at all... My father has fell-walked extensively in the Lake District and across Wales for most of his life, and further afield since retirement, completing the Pyrenees coast-to-coas...
