Re: stone stacking on beaches, bad or ok?

I hate the piles of stones. Not navigational cairns, but the ones put up by tourists for thier photo shoots - Gneist point, ,Sligachan, Glen Nevis, probably everywhere along the NC500 now. I've been encountering them in increasingly isolated spots too. Somewhere nearby the piles of stones are the p...

Re: OS Map Numbering ….I’m confused!

Before I retired as a 2nd hand bookseller, I always used to be able to sell 1" maps at a good price, as even though they were old, there were still enough people around whose legs remembered what it was like to walk 5 miles. I like those old maps because they have more stuff on them.. and by s...

Re: Finally just about back in the game

Good to see you back, even if you are one of the few people on here to have been doing less hillwalking than me over the past few months!   well I have been up Aa'n, Vrackie and a wee marilyn or two, but didn't think they were worth boring folk with.. Been too bloomin hot anyway....

Re: UFO's

Oh my dad has some gruesome tales about the ones with the green eyes.. Never ever seen one myself, but after the stories I would run away and never go back to that spot again in July if I saw one.. thanks for the heads up

Finally just about back in the game

I know - its been bloomin ages since I posted anything.. Had another ankle operation back in January, and boy has it been slow to come back.. You think everything is healing fine, then just the slightest jarring on the wrong terrain, and I'm back to square one.. :? Dad has been nagging me to ...

Re: Red Squirrel, rubbish picture

I've never seen one down there- special.. There is a red squirrel at lochearnhead who likes playing chicken on the road- I've had to emergency stop 3 times now - once in the bus which gave a passenger a black eye

Re: How did you get on in 2017?

I say it every year, but have to get to Rum one of these days - booked holidays and good weather will coincide eventually! Other than that there are a few trips I would like to do - A couple of glen wanders for a change, scrambles in Fisherfield and Knoydart that take a bit of a walk in, my dad wan...

Re: Skye Guides

If you are a competent scrambler, just buy a copy of smc Skye scrambles and go for it - with an optional guide for the inn pinn. The gabbro is a lot easier climbing than most rock types, and being frogmarched up by a guide isn't nearly as much fun..

Bonny Perthshire Overnighter

I had fancied a wander round the bonny woods of Perthshire for a while - I go there a lot for work, but never any time for exploring.. Easy paths too by the looks of it, and with ankle playing up the last couple of months, looked manageable. Left early-ish and got to the Garry Bridge car park before...

Fell & Pike - Must be Langdale

So went down to the Lakes for the weekend on the promise of significantly better weather than in Scotland. We weren't disappointed! Didn't leave until lazy time on Saturday morning, so didn't get camped up and settled until the afternoon, by which time, there was just time for a short walk really - ...
