My wife just pointed out this damming review of the Ben on Tripadvior

Re: Fences and plenty of them

The wooden structure in the fence line looks like a cross country jump for equestrians.

Re: Scottish tourism could reopen on July 15th

I live in the North West Highlands and there is quite a bit of concern in some areas that this should not happen, it is to early. It's likely that the infection rate in England may rise again in the coming weeks and possibly even In Scotlands Central belt. If the country is reopened there will be n...

Re: Denfinella's lockdown birdlife diary

Now our horizons have expanded to 5 miles away from home, we managed to add a few new species to the list over the weekend: yellowhammer, lapwing, buzzard (a bird of prey at last!), Canada goose, oystercatcher and crested chicken. I've added photos of most of these to the first post, and we're now ...

Re: Tick / cleg repellant

A massive issue for horse riders is the horse fly or clegg. As someone mentioned in an earlier post they are attracted to large dark objects so dressing in lighter clothing may help? When riding a dark bay horse as I do, you can be completely surrounded by the stealthy little buggers. Over the years...

Re: An Teallach difficulty

Don't get too hung up about grades - they are only a rough indication, since many of these routes are open to quite a lot of variation. This post says it all, it’s quite unlikely that you will end up on exactly the same route over the most difficult section, Corrag Bhuide. Did this last June in the...

Re: Stay at home

I'm an SNP supporter and voter but Wee Nips isn't doing this right. Currently Ayrshire has 7 ICU cases, Grampian 10, Glasgow 30, Lanarkshire 7, Lothian 11, Borders, Galloway, Fife, Forth Valley, Highlands, Orkney/Shetland, Tayside and the "Golden Jubilee" have a combined total of zero peo...

Re: Stay at home

Seems pretty clear to me. I can't drive 40minutes to walk a hill in scotland but if you live in England you can drive to walk the same hill. Fuming. That's not correct, the law in Scotland stands, if someone from England drives over the border they are then in breach of the law and can receive a fi...

Re: Liathach, what a mountain.

Brought back memories of a great day. I'm sat here now looking across at the Torridon hills from home. The weather isn't great if that is any consolation, blowing at between 45 and 50mph at sea level with frequent showers, most of the snow has melted since its gone quite mild 9+ C. Better weather la...

Re: Best way to improve scrambling skills

Been a climber, mountaineer for thirty plus years my advice would be never do this solo. If you are not on a rope then never go up what you can't reverse unless you know there is a way off. Also practice your route finding skills, it's not all that easy sometimes and you will need to know a little a...
