Cruaich Tairbeirt loop from Arrochar

A splendid day in early January, cold and clear. Our route doesn't seem to be described by others, so here's the detail, shown on apps using Open Street Map as a base. Screenshot_2024-01-07-07-35-05-662_menion.android.locus.pro (1).jpg We walked along the 3 Lochs Way from Arrochar (initally N to cut...

Re: Carrying toddler on easy route to Glas-bheinn Mhor

I had to read your report to remind me which hill that was! Sounds like you had a great day and looking at your pictures reminded me of our day. I'd certainly do that hill again if I was in the area. It would have been great to meet your group in the hill, so often we saw at most one other person if...

Re: Beinn Tharsuinn from Diebidale

Hi, a couple of things, firstly well done for a short, accurate report on simply one walk on one day rather than doing a walk report that includes several days under one heading and for keeping the report on track without the need to say what you had for breakfast and what the weather was like at h...

Re: New Grahams!!!

We finished the Fionas on Stob Mhic Bheathain today. Long day out, especially as we'd been on Jura yesterday. (ignore any hills logged on my profile) Belated congratulations and enjoy your freedom from lists. What is the correct term for those of us who have completed the Fionas? Fionaist doesnt so...

Re: New Grahams!!!

I'll have finished the list I started (hills between 2000 and 2500ft) and that's what matters to me Agreed. Just found out about this. It's ok to change a list to remove inaccuracies but I strongly disapprove of a list which was initially determined to fit in with historic imperial well established...

Re: Possibly the Last Post

Did you come across any live stock on route? Not when we were there. The first bit of the route does go through a field or two and farmers do move livestock around, and we did notice horses in an adjacent field. The route goes along a public path over to Cromdale so in theory there should not be ag...

Possibly the Last Post

This is my 118th post on Walkhighlands! They've mostly been about Grahams. Here is our last one, Carn a'Ghille Chearr. I'd initially had a very impractical idea. Since I had already climbed the nearby Creagan a'Chaise and the Hare had not, we could do a Compleation on a club meet, involving him goin...

Creagan a'Chaise from the south south west

For reasons described in my next post, we wanted to climb Creagan a'Chaise from the south west on this Friday afternoon. I've written a post about the walkhighlands route from Cromdale, which provides a bit more variety, with cairns and ruins to look out for. However, for anyone interested, here is ...

Re: The day my hope was reborn

Pleased to see you posting again. As a keen reader of your Graham posts, I had noticed your absence with concern. May you continue to find hope, peace and joy in the hills. And the English to describe your trips for us!

Ben Stack traverse

(Just found this sitting in my drafts in August- oops!) Here's our approximate route, described in the SMC guide, though I do think that the phone box indicating the start has moved a yard or two. It provides an excellent loop and traverse of Ben Stack. our_route.gpx I had been intimidated by distan...

Re: Bheinn Mhor from Loch Aineort

Might be looking back at some of your Grahams' reports for ideas if I progress any further on them We've really enjoyed the Grahams (the end is almost in sight). Though my reports are focussing on Slow Grahaming - for those with dodgy knees who can't walk fast - you dont seem to be in that category...

Bheinn Mhor from Loch Aineort

We enthusiastically planned a short break to South Uist during a heatwave. We couldn't get a vehicle onto the ferry at short notice so decided to take bikes, boots and book a pod. Then the forecast changed, showing cloud and rain on the Western Isles. Anyway, we were committed. There is an excellent...

Laxford Bridge N and S

I mostly just post Graham reports on WalkHighlands but couldn't find any mention online of this walk so thought I would blog it too. After 2 days of hillwalking, and a rather uncertain forecast, we decided to take things easy and walk along beside the Laxford river. Here's our outward route. our_rou...

Ben Stack traverse

We followed the route described in the SMC guide which provides an excellent loop and traverse of Ben Stack. Here's our approximate route, which zigzagged up the north west ridge. $matches[2] From Achfary, we took the road past the houses and sheds to the gate into the forest. (I think the phone box...

Re: Twin twin tops

How damp was it? last time I went up that way I foolishly found myself in bog up to my thighs. The bog seemed dodgeable, we always found somewhere to put our feet, nothing anywhere near over-the-boot level. But it had been very dry for weeks, except for the Saturday 2 days before, when it rained al...
