Re: Two Porcine Gatekeepers

That was a rather interesting route for these hills....and a very apt title to boot. Can remember adding the Sow of Atholl on at the end when I went round the four munros but didn't consider the Boar as I was starting from the layby NE of the Sow and then cycling up to Balsporran. Will keep your ro...

Two Porcine Gatekeepers

our_route.gpx Scientific name: Sus drumochteri. It was a Sunday in the middle of the stalking season and the weather sounded decent, so I wanted to go somewhere. Looking for a sign that boasted 'no stalking on Sundays' - because if good weather fell on any other day, the place wouldn't be acc...

Re: Buidhe Bheinn, from Glenshiel rather than Kinloch Hourn

In all honesty, it might seem less obvious, and certainly isn't straightforward, but I'd say the N approach to Buidhe Bheinn could be the best one. The W top is still a superb viewpoint (except when immersed in clag), but it can be reached from the main summit easily, and I found the descent from it...

Re: The Bhuird/Avon Side Road Corbetts

It's walks like this that the Cairngorms were designed for - there is something magical about their spaciousness that works brilliantly with a long trip - in good weather   After walking over the flank of Culardoch in heavy diagonal rain I'm due a return trip, so thanks for the temptation...

Re: The Bhuird/Avon Side Road Corbetts

A fine report on an unusual meandering route through this part of the world. Isn't it just brilliant when the forecasters play ball??? Presumably you ran/jogged much of it, to average a speed of close to 4 kph??? Thanks! I didn't see any mention of a similar approach to this group of hills, so I wa...

The Bhuird/Avon Side Road Corbetts

our_route.gpx After only having one free day over the past three weeks (and thus promptly using it to do nothing all day), I was just itching to go somewhere. With low clouds forecast for the W/NW areas, it appeared the Cairngorms were the place to be that weekend. Recalling a walk I had planned bu...

Let Loners Be Loners

our_route.gpx It might feel a little inappropriate to name the report this way when this was a walk I didn't do alone, Graham coming with me. The name is meant to describe the hills, though. Sgurr a' Mhaoraich flat-out says "does not combine easily with its neighbours", Buidhe Bheinn only...

Cyclic Tetramealline Structures

our_route.gpx Step 1: draw a feasible route connecting several hills I have yet to bag. Step 2: realise all the hills are called Meall... I just had to incorporate that into the title somehow! :D Initially, I wanted to make it work around the word four-Meall-dable, but since the walk itself wasn't ...

Re: 3 munros from Spittal of Glenshee

Yeah, once you've made it to Carn an Righ, it seems a shame not to include Beinn Iutharn Mhor given how close it is... and how it'll be a long trek to Spittal of Glenshee regardless! :D

Re: Skye-grilled

Enjoyed the report. 23 years ago we stayed at a cottage on the Loch shore near Luib; it was my son Ben's first holiday. Everyday i looked up at Glas Bheinn Mhor thinking i'd do it the next day. The weather turned rank so never got to go. However Ben and i walked Garb Bheinn and Marsco in 2019 and h...

Skye-grilled

our_route.gpx Or perhaps Skye-roasted. Neither word is recognised by dictionaries, and I guess the choice depends on whether Skye came closer to grilling me about my scrambling ability or roasting me for it.  Anyway. How long do you suppose one can listen to odes about Skye before popp...
