Dundreich - a fine view to end with

The mountain weather forecast said if you want rain and cloudy tops then head west past the M74. So I headed east today for my first walk in the Moorfoot Hills, near Edinburgh. 3 Donalds in this 11 mile round - Blackhope Scar (651m), Bowbeat hill (626m) and Dundreich (623m). The views from Dundreich...

White Coomb and Carrifran Gans

Finally a return to some glorious weather after a November like May so a short drive down the M74 for a walk up White Coomb (821m) and Carrifran Gans (757m). The view down into the Carrifran Wildwood, from just off the top of Carrifran Gans, has to be one of the finest views in the South of Scotland...

Around Games Hope

There was a fair bit of peching going on in the heat but an amazing 14 mile round of the 10 Donalds (4 Donalds and 6 Donald tops) around Games Hope from Talla Reservoir. Erie Hill was a magical exposed spot (as the name might suggest!) and another view of Carrifran Wildwood were the highlights. $mat...

Guid gear comes in sma’ bulk...Bizzyberry Hill

A wee hill wander to another new viewpoint, Bizzyberry hill fort (363m). Definitely a case of a walk hidden in plain sight as very little written about this amazing spot just outside Biggar. Locals probably like to keep this wee gem to themselves... The short ridge has 2 hillforts and also Wallace's...

Re: Around the top of the Manor Valley

Was intrigued when I returned home but couldn't find any history on the cairn/finger of rock Ian. Does feel and look prehistoric (including the pock marked base stone) but don't know whether it has been in this site for centuries or moved (it's not marked on the OS map). The map records a cairn the ...

Around the top of the Manor Valley

With the travel restrictions lifted we enjoyed some new adventures in the Borders and D&G at the end of the Easter holidays. On Monday, a long round of the 8 Donalds and Donald Tops at the head of the Manor Valley near Peebles. Beautiful warm sunshine all day. Including Greenside Law, Dollar Law...

To the Daer-side...

Big skies and lots of quick passing snow showers on a great 12 mile walk round some of the Daer Donalds (and tops) - Rodger Law (668m), Ballencleuch Law (691m), Scaw'd Law (661m), Glenleith Fell (611m) Wedder Law (666m) and Shiel Dod (668m) from Kirkhope.
