Re: Four hard days in Cowal - Dunoon to Arrochar

I admire your determination to keep going it is difficult ground to cover given a sunny spring or crisp winter day it all seems worthwhile -you deserve lots of these after this and your trip to southern uplands ( have just read your report)

Re: Not the most exciting Marilyn!

Docjames - good to get the kids used to the relentless slog early on - am ashamed to admit boggy nondescript hills are one of my specialities and have been on this one 6 or 7 times in winter when there is a frosty crust on the ground mostly using the route you describe from Hill House . Sgurr - if y...

Re: beta-blockers and hillwalking

I had a triple heart bypass in 2001 and have been taking beta-blockers along with other medication since then. It took me about 18 months to get back to full fitness and become confident my heart wasn't about to fail as I struggled uphill. I never took any advice from doctors just paced myself (am n...

Helensburgh to Milngavie

It has been a good winter for hillwalking, lots of inversions, most memorable coming up to the sun on narnain just after Christmas, all familiar gullies climbed and just generally have had tolerable conditions when out and about. Grey rain for the rest of the year no doubt... Here I started at dawn ...

Oh No!

Ach never mind.....Revisted my winter walk. Had a look at the place I fell, noted it wasn't just the ice, there was a large wobbly block of rock that sent me off balance- an explanation for the accident . On my walk out in winter a reuters photographer caught me on the whw near tyndrum, the pictures...

Blair Atholl-Beinn Bhreac-Aviemore

our_route.gpx Beinn Bhreac was the wanted hill. Apart from the pleasure of walking over them the rest were added to prove to myself that I could still manage a bigger day. On Monday after work caught the bus to Blair Atholl and walked in to the Allt Scheicheachan bothy. On Tuesday had my porridge t...

Arran: coast to coast

Unplanned, just went where the music took me ...on the train, ferry, then bus to Sannox. Stuck to higher ground - Left late over Caisteal Abhail, off the shoulder at Carn Mor over to camp at the top of Beinn Tarsuinn. Slept late. Had a morning walk down by Loch Tanna, straight up to Beinn Bhreac, th...
