Re: Talking dogs...

Never camped in the Cairngorms, but I do take my dog camping. Water is far more important than food for your dog, make sure to take enough for both of you, you might not find a handy wee stream if we have one of our once a decade dry spells. I cut down an old sleeping bag for the wee fella to sleep ...

Re: Dogs and Hills

I have a Patterdale, he'd go all day long if you let him. The only terrier in the world that isn't a yappy wee so and so. lol An amazing dog for long days outdoors, he's an absolute trooper and was made for the outdoors life. That's my recommendation. Outdoorsy type dogs like Spaniels, Collies, cert...

Re: Walking dog harness

I've got a Truelove harness for my terrier (13Kg). Bought from Amazon and does the job incredibly well. He had a more substantial harness, but it rubbed him as the plastic buckles sat below the padded area of the harness against the skin and I had to change it. Didn't matter how loose or tight the h...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Nope. Bloody good guess though. Not a living thing. I used could as the past tense of can. It's probably not as deadly now, although I dare say it's not without it's dangers. Never having been I wouldn't know, but I know this much; back in the day you wouldn't have wanted to stay for dinner.

Re: Corserine and Rhins of Kells

I can't comment on that specific road, but any I've come across in and around that area would be accessible. If it's the one close to Burnhead Bridge and Forrest Bridge on the OS map then I'd be very surprised if it wasn't. Let us know how you get on, I've got that walk pencilled in on my to do list...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Cool. :)

I'll have a wee go then......

SBC.

There's plenty around the coast, this one could be deadly though.

Re: Cairngorm Funicular Resurrection

Am I the only one thinking 'they've said £20 mill, so that means it'll come in at around 30 or 40' ? Pretty sure there'll be a squad of 'scrappies' in a nearby 'dirty camping' layby that would strip it, then remove it free of charge. Job done. :D And for a couple of grand they'd maybe throw i...

Re: Looking for advice on a decent mid-layer jacket

Probably not what you'd be looking for, but I bought a Peter Storm down jacket for £50 last year (550 fill ?). Around 100gms I think. You can pick one up around £40 now. I've been using it when I'm sitting around eating lunch or late at night when camping....way too warm for me to wear when doing an...

Re: Rab Jacket Confusion

I can't fault my Berghaus Extrem jacket. Great pockets, pit zips, brilliant articulated hood, goes down past my bum and it keeps the water out brilliantly. When I was in the market for my waterproofs an outdoorsy person advised me that 'Rab is excellent gear, but stay away from their waterproofs!' ....

Re: Queueing for summit selfies

Why does anyone want to take a selfie at a summit anyway? I know I've been there and I'm not yet senile enough to need a reminder. I only want one of my wee dog as a future reminder in years to come of what he was like and the good times we were having. :) Unfortunately I'm prone to forgetting what...

Re: Queueing for summit selfies

I mind seeing this on Ben Nevis. I walked by the queue, touched the trig point and walked off, I did get a few glares and words uttered. I’m there to climb a hill, not queue for the perfect selfie I think I'd do the same. I like to get a wee pic of me and my dog at the summit (or just the wee fella...

Re: Name that Loch!

Well, it looks like it could be a reservoir of sorts to me, or maybe a fishing place? And it doesn't look to be the correct shape for Earlstoun so that would make it Lochinvar maybe?
