Re: Long distance Norway backpacking routes?

Hi We have just returned from 6 weeks in Norway some of which was walking from hut-to-hut. For that part of our journey we took the train to Kongsvoll station and hiked from there to the Snøheim hut (25kms) and stayed there for 2 nights. This is in the Dovre National Park and you will see Muskox on ...

Re: Canada - Chester Lake - How Winter Should Be.

Oh, the beautiful blue sky and sunshine, not to mention all that snow! Out here on the west (read wet) coast our mountains are suffering from lack of snow. A month ago our cabin had no snow and now we have less than a meter, definitely not the usual amount. Great trip report, Chris

Re: Speyside Way in 5 days (Sept 2013)

Thanks for the great report, it brought back many memories from our walk in May 2012. We were walking during the time of the Ballindalloch Bridge closure so we thought we had judged the timing correctly to meet our pre-arranged taxi to take us around the detour. Unbeknownst to us was the numerous up...

Re: Great Glen Way with the sun every day

Thanks for the report and photos. We walked the GGW last June in very hot weather and carried all our own gear. After finishing it, I would agree that using a baggage service would have made it more enjoyable. We also carried a GPS so our measurement came out to 79.2miles.

Re: LDR etiquette

We walked the Speyside Way last June and did not do the extension but I still would check off the box saying completed for that walk.

Re: Canada - Plain of 6 glaciers - at last!!

Awesome photos as usual. It was interesting viewing the trail and scenery with all that snow. We've done the trail several times but always in August. Much warmer then and many more people!! Have a wonderful Christmas.

Re: Evaluating a tour guide

We walked the WHW this past May having booked everything ahead of time online. No need for a guide, as previous posters have noted the way is very well sign posted not to mention very busy with other walkers. If you don't want to carry your own bags use a baggage transfer service and just carry a da...

Re: Eagle Crag & Sergeant's Crag from Longthwaite

Thanks for the trip report. We will be staying for 2 nights in Rosthwaite while doing the Cumbria Way so this sounds like a nice way to spend one of the days.

Re: Northern Lights

We were lucky enough to be away from the city this past weekend so enjoyed the aurora from the Squilax Youth hostel in British Columbia. This hostel in on the TransCanada Highway located between Chase and Sorrento about 51' N latitude. Not only did we see the Aurora but at the same time we could hea...

Re: West Highland Way - not quite

There will always be another time to complete the walk. Well done for persevering. :) I agree about staying in some places longer to explore the area. That is the one regret I have after my husband and I completed several LDW's last May/June is that we didn't stay longer in some locations. With that...

Re: Blisters 1, toe nails 9, teeth one fewer than before!

Great trip report. It brought back fond memories of our trip in May of this year. Walking across Rannoch Moor was the highlight of the trip for me and I'd gladly walk it again.

Re: Great Glen Way, Fort William to Drumnadrochit

Well done! We also walked the GGW carrying all our gear and in hindsight I wish we had used a baggage service. By the time we started on that walk we had also finished Hadrians Wall and the West Highland Way so we were now in complete walking shape. I have mixed feelings about the GGW. After reading...

Re: Canada - Galatea Lakes - First snow of the season

Happy to see another beautiful report online. One of these days we'll head to the Rockies to wander around but it will have to wait till next summer. We're hoping to head to Lake Louise for some X-country skiing this winter but that will all depend on how quickly my back heals. Herniated disks are n...

Re: Women's outdoor clothing rant

What's needed over there is a shop called MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) Apparently this is how Canadians identify each other when exploring the great outdoors......choice, choice, choice.... I don't think I've ever been downtown in Calgary without dropping in http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/WomensCl...

Re: West Highland Way - Avery wet May 2012

Hello
Thanks for the trip report. We were the Canadians who were walking the WHW at the same time as your group. Your report brought back fond memories of the walk and of the many friendly people we met along the way.
