Re: Back onto higher ground

I feel I should point out for the benefit of anyone else reading this thread that I think OS mapping or it's equivalent should always be carried in the hills (whether digital or paper or both). I never rely 100% on the Openstreetmap maps, I always have access to an OS map for those "now where ...

Re: Back onto higher ground

Yeah I second what Coop said, well done. You bagged both and got home to tell the tale, sounds like a good day to me  I've only ever done those two from that side, I quite like them but by god they're a "bit of a slog" aren't they. Just a note re the path: (I know that they divide op...

Hardest part of any walk is getting out of bed or out of the car - and hitting the hills !!
Well done 👏

Thanks Dad, feel a bit better on reflection  I’ll not be back up in a hurry though! :D

Back onto higher ground

Decided to tackle these 2 from Crainlarich. I wasn’t even going to write a detailed report but it’s always good to recognise what you think is a “bad” day as well as the good. No lies here, I hated them. I know I’ll never win any awards for being the fittest or the quickest but I had to work for eve...

Storm Kathleen is on her way

A morning venture up a local Graham with Paul. Scotland braced for the after effects of Storm Kathleen. Watched the weather and timed it perfectly. A bit blustery at times but no more than a typical Scottish day without a named storm.

Hopping about the Galloway Forrest

Great day down in the Galloway Forrest IMG_2896.jpeg We chose to extend WH route to include Carlins Cairn, recommend doing it from this side. c51f4e3b-46d2-460c-a200-a3441556a1e4.jpeg 9670b93c-f794-45af-a2da-9d3164776ff3.jpeg Back over Corserine, and followed WH route onto Milllfire & Milldown f...

A Good Friday indeed

The best way to spend a normal working day that’s a bank holiday…. is up a hill Okay so no lies here, wasn’t expecting quite as much deep snow but for someone who’s only little, knee deep at times takes the biscuit Anyway, still a great day. Avoided the morning rain. Summit in cloud the whole way up...

Ettrick Hills circuit

Followed WH route, more snow than anticipated but weather better than forecast.

Also took in White Shank, Smidhope Hill, Hopetoun Craig - all tops, as part of the route

Broad Law & some neighbours

Day out with dad for a circuit of Donald’s. Parked at the Megget stone (enough room for 2 cars). Opted to add in another Donald and Top to the WH Broad Law route. First headed up to Talla Cleuch Head (Donald), leaving the WH route through a gate before reaching Cairn Law. No feature on Talla Cleuch ...

Can you remember roughly what time you started your walk at ?
Thanks

So sorry, I’ve only just seen your message! Not that it’s much help now but I left the car park just after 7. Did you go on Sunday?

Sunrise on Ben A’an

A fabulous morning walk up Ben A’an. Had I left 10 minutes earlier to account for the fact the Dukes Pass “may not be treated for ice/snow” I’d have caught first light from the summit. The pass appeared frosty, okay not icy, but still took it easy - I did aim of reaching the car park. Anyway, cracki...

Rounding the year off on Tinto

Great to bring the year to the close with a leg stretcher up Tinto with Dad.

Icy in bits, which meant the bog was frozen and easily avoided. Windy on top, snowed during descent but nothing to worry about thankfully.

Happy New Year everyone & happy walking in 2024!

A fine winters walk

Ascent is approx A beautiful winters day forecasted made for a very fine walk with Dad, Chris & his friend Davie. We’d opted before hand to not include the Corbett on this route and head directly for the Munro. After passing through the last gate/over the stile. We made a beeline uphill here, sk...
