When wildlife attacks!!!

Not so much a wildlife sighting, more of a very close encounter. Just got back from my regular bike ride. On the back road out of town I was dive bombed by one of the local Buzzards. To be fair there were signs saying "Beware birds of Prey" and it is known that these birds can be quite ter...

Re: Wildlife, Wreckage, and the Whole of Beinn Eighe

What an epic day. Fantastic report and stunning pictures too. I can't wait to get up to this mountain now, you really describe it well. Definitely should be a contender for this month's prizes.

Re: Ben Lomond

Well done on this. You've really started something now. We did this as our first and are now up to 5. Walk reports in my other guise as half of Paul_Antonia. When we did it we went the other way round and have to agree that the Ptarmigan Ridge is the better part of this mountain. Got some cracking v...

Re: A Gorgeous Evening at Loch Skeen

Thanks for the great comments guys. I was only disappointed that we didn't get time to climb White Coomb too but this has immediately become one of my favourite places. Thanks for the info about not needing a permit to fish in Loch Skeen, I did wonder. What could I expect to catch and do any particu...

A Gorgeous Evening at Loch Skeen

I had first become aware of Loch Skeen whilst simply scrolling around the maps view on Walkhighlands looking for interesting features, as I sometimes do. Suddenly there it was, this medium sized loch clearly at some elevation and with higher ground and crags around its northern and western fringes. ...

Re: Nesting Swans

Beautiful. Look forward to seeing your shots of the cygnets when they arrive. Really hope the kids leave them alone like you say.

Re: Little Duckies

Thanks Chris. The lens is the standard Nikon DX kit that came with our D3100. The ducks see people all day every day so they aren't shy. I learned very quickly that if I moved at all then mum would herd them away so I just sat still and let them come to me. The second and fourth shots were taken by ...

Little Duckies

Some recent arrivals on my local waterway. Took Antonia down to see them and spent 20mins snapping away. Thought I'd share a few shots. When we got down there the local Heron was there too and Antonia wouldn't believe me that he would be there eyeing up these little morsels. Really gladdens the hear...

Re: Back on Track with Antonia's First Double

Thanks again Kieth. She's not always in front of me although on this walk she did spend quite a bit of time saying " Hey! I'm going first. " I think that now she's regaining her confidence I'll be trailing behind more and more. Just to very publicly set the record straight, because I know...

Re: Make mine a double!

Nice report and some lovely pics there. I really like the B+W treatment in some of them. I've done a bit of B+W conversion myself but you've made me hungry to take some more shots for that kind of work.
Keep on bagging. you've already surpassed Antonia and me.

Broken Promises on Broad Law

Having established that we both had Thursday off work Jari and I decided another walk was in order. He'd asked me where I fancied going and I said I wanted to go to the hills on the other side of Manor Valley because I'd not walked them before. His response to this was " Do you have use of a ca...

Spring is here

I went out for a bit of a ramble round the woods this afternoon with my partner Chenoa. Spring is definitely here, saw some blossom on someones garden tree and daffs are out in force. We had a great day. After years of hearing them we finally got to see our very first woodpecker today. Greater spott...

They're beautiful.
Great pics too. Some of the best I've seen on here of these fantastic birds.
Well Done.

Re: is it a sparrowhawk

Checked my Collins Bird Guide and I reckon Kestrel, and a lady one at that. It doesn't seem to have the right colour in it's eyes for sparrowhawk and those markings on its back / wings are classic Kestrel. It seems to have that dowdier appearance so common to many birds of the female persuasion. A m...
