Re: Walk through hell to get to heaven and a snorkel at the

Great stuff - your ordeal with tummy trouble made me laugh (sorry)! First time I think I've seen pictures from Conival and Ben More Assynt - obviously I haven't been looking - and looks more specatacular than I thought. I love that area though, must get up there again sometime - maybe May, lockdowns...

Quite agree. This was my first visit, and if anything I found Beinn Eighe even more appealing. Already plotting to go back - as if there aren't another few hundred Scottish peaks I've never been near!

Re: Liathach butterflies

We took the bypass path last time we climbed it, as the wind was buffeting us all over the place on the ridge so we opted for safety first in the lee of the wind. The bypass path was horrible though and I would have preferred to get my hands on the rock for 4 limb drive as opposed to 2. I don't bla...

Re: Liathach butterflies

Another option I might try sometime is to start from the Coire Dubh Mor car park, go up the NE of ridge of Stuc a' Choire Dhuibh Bhig and return from Mullach an Rathain by Coireag Dhearg, and a traverse under the N face to reach the Coire Dubh Mor path. If you can arrange the transport, then comple...

Liathach butterflies

I'd read a lot about Liathach, and watched the videos on Youtube - the mountain's reputation as something of a beast seems well earned. So, having been defeated by what turned out to be the 'ugly step' on the ridge of Beinn Eighe the previous day (see my report here: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/...

Re: Beinn Eighe with attempt on Sail Mhor

Eighe is a hill that you just have to walk on all of its ridges and from several different approaches. Yes, completely agree - so much to explore on one 'hill', and thanks to the replies on here I now know I've got to get back to do Sail Mhor and the ugly step, and have a look at the crash site. An...

Re: Beinn Eighe with attempt on Sail Mhor

Thanks BlankPanther, I read your report too and previously knew nothing about the plane crash and wreckage - yet another reason to go back! :D

Re: Beinn Eighe with attempt on Sail Mhor

Thanks jmarkb. That actually looks like fun going up, but I didn't fancy it coming down. I'll have to go back and try the route your way round, though I think (hope) there's an easier way up to Sail Mhor than the one you chose!

Read your report btw, great work!

Beinn Eighe with attempt on Sail Mhor

Well, living way down south in Brighton I don't get to the Highlands very often, but was rewarded on this occasion by two glorious days on Beinn Eighe and Liathach (report to follow). Two fabulous mountains, on two beautiful days - what more could you ask for? My route was the 'western summits', but...
