Re: Garmin InReach and Messenger thoughts?

No insurance worries in this country buddy, SMR is a voluntary based charity organisation. Not sure about the differences between the two, I have the older inreach mini, tbh I should've just bought a mcmurdo fast finder, as I never, ever use the messages. It's £12 a month for the inreach, a simple S...

Re: The silliest sign you've seen on a walk?

Anytime I see a sign on someone's rural idyll driveway that states it's 'private' and hence 'no turning'. Pretty much makes me really want to turn in and make them reekin.

Re: Fjern Gokotta 1 man tent

It's a similar design to the MSR tents that are generally inner first pitchers, but can be quite easily pitched outer first, plenty vids on YT of how to do it.

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

al78 spot on, everything is designed around the car in this country, yer average motorist thinks potholes are the biggest issue we have for instance. The braindead press use 'attack on motorosts' regularly, as the reader is all too easily brainwashed by such drivel.

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

Cars per sq km is more relevant, ie the amount of space in your country given over to 4 wheels, rather than how many cars are linked to a person.

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I'd a happily pay a little extra too, for sure, as I would to keep libraries and the many other services that some see as 'non-essential'. I also think that FLS should front up a bit in the situation, they've done okay over the years covering our hills in non native species, it would be very easy f...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I use no such formula, there's a wee dookit in my centre console that holds about 20 coins, that's the reason :D . We badly need more infrastructure, aire style setups to assist the pressures in many areas in terms of overnighting, the likes of Ben Lomond needs a much bigger car park too, as do many...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I generally keep a stock of 20 x £1 coins in my car for this purpose. I'm quite happy to pay the fees, really genuinely doesn't bother me, even Succoth at £9, it's still cheaper than my fuel to get there.

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I am, on balance, in favour of looking to have a modest 'tourist tax' of some kind to contribute to the council cost of keeping rural car parks, loo's, paths, signs etc operating. Agreed. Folk can moan about vehicles overnighting til the cows come home, and similar moans about paying to park, but t...

Re: WHW 6 days itinerary ideas

The one thing that would make me go 5 and not 6 days is building in a day to cover any issues, as you have a sleeper booked. If you do complete in 5, then you have a day to finish on the Ben, if you have the legs for it! 8)
