Re: Pine marten

My colleague at work, her mother has two that come into her house in FW, daily. They enjoy jam sandwiches, I get picture updates Monday to Friday.

Note, I don’t advocate feeding PM’s jam sandwiches, for what it’s worth. But they are curious creatures and very comfortable in her living room

You do realise you were part of the crowd? :D

Indeed there's nothing as self righteous as a Scottish hillwalker

Re: Corrour bothy?

Is it actually locked though?

Bothies were 'shut' at the height of lockdown but a project I'm working on took me into the caingorms and Bob Scott's and Corrour were both unlocked and being used.

Re: Carn a'Mhaim to corrour bothy

Yeah i'm planning on doing it in a day, if I left Carn a'Mhaim as the last climb of the day I probably wouldn't have the motivation to climb it. I figure if I do the two big climbs of this and the Devils point near the start of the day it'll be a lot easier. Ah yeah I could head north, I've never b...

Re: Lock Muick and Linn of Dee parking controls

Parking the last few weeks there has been wild

In every lay-by all the way back to the tree line on the first weekend after lockdown

No problem at all with new faces making use of the hills. But the litter was a disgrace.

Re: Car parking charges at Spittal of Glenmuick

I've had a ticket, of sorts, at the car park. I didn't pay and came back to a ticket from the forestry commission noting the importance of paying for a ticket and documenting the work they had been doing in the area. No fine though.

And for what its worth, F the royal family.

Re: Lairig Ghru and return

Start at Linn of Dee. Lairig Ghru to Glenmore Lodge and stay there. Next day out the back of Glenmore and pick up the Lairig an Loaigh. Sneak up Bynack More without telling the missus then drop back down to pick up the path through Glen Derry and back to Linn of Dee via Bob Scott's for a look to se...

Re: Cameron McNeish: Confused about re-wilding? So am I!

I would like not to see a re-introduction, but an introduction of a group of hungry lions to Westminster. In fact, I would financially contribute to this endeavour.

Re: The Little Things

I adore coming round the side of Carn aM'haim to see Corrour bothy in the distance. I recall the first time I saw it and the excitement it brought.

Similarly, seeing the car after a 30k day, HEAVEN

Re: Dogs in the hills... and their owners

Folk love a moan min. You can't moan about a muddy paw print on your jaiket after a day oot in the Scottish hills. You know it's going to be a muddy affair regardless from where it came. Those of an anorak persuasion, where do you suggest the dugs are suitably exercised off the lead, presumably not ...

Summer Solstice walking, anyone?

Keeping an eye on the weather, will attempt an overnight walk depending on conditions. Last year we were up Lochnagar, hit the summit about 3am, there was a good 20 people up there. The heavens opened, most went home immediately. Conditions became poor, there were no views to be had, we trundled rou...

Re: Camping On Lochnagar?

Did you camp at Broad Cairn then? We saw a few tents there this morning about 0730. Was a fine morning in the end.

Re: Anyone Out Walking Tonight

Were you on lochnagar last night then?

We arrived up there about 3am, maybe 15 people there, another 10 or so arrived after us. The heavens opened and viability was poor so everyone just took off for home.

Apart from us. We went on and done the shite mounth 5.

Re: Walk Highlands.... Too popular for its own good?

Compared to you older :p guys, I guess I am a newbie to the hills, I just started this caper at the beginning of 2012. To a degree I can empathise with you, hordes of people are taking over your dirty little secret and it is grossly frustrating that joe public would spoil the hills. I often think to...

Re: first wildcamp recomendations

You might want to consider a bothy? Not camping but a midweek jaunt to a bothy was perfect for our first overnighter and allows you to get used to big pack, cooking etc without hassle of a tent as well. Plus you might get a fire going inside :) That did cross my mind and we will defo be doing a Bot...
