Re: New Grahams!!!

Hi Paul On the main Fiona's page the wee menu is listing 'Show Grahams by:'...user rating etc, though does then have the 'show on a map' option as 'Your Fiona map'. I tried to get an image to show but am apparently technologically illiterate. Am using Chrome on Windows 10 if that matters (I have no ...

Re: Guidance on using the walks on this site?

One thing I find useful to do is to check any recent walk reports for the intended route to see if any unforeseen obstacles have appeared- tree felling, new fences, landslips, parking areas overtaken by construction crews etc. Hopefully not an issue along a coastal path but has saved me some bother ...

Re: Glen Falloch parking?

The parking was certainly open when I drove past on Friday. Not sure if it would be a problem on a work day just now but was fine back in November (don't know if you were there more recently). The bridge was also alive and well in November.

Re: Hills with little uns

There are plenty of hills that can be done with babies in tow, however, as babies and parents are individuals this is not a straightforward question to answer. Firstly on what age- very small babies can't be carried on the back. There are front carriers, which can be used from birth, but in my exper...

Re: Keto / low carb - high fat diet & walking

What about eggs, fish, nuts? For day trips could you not take a tub of tuna/salmon/egg salad and nuts for snacks?

Re: Merrick and, um, More Merrick

EmmaKTunskeen wrote:Enjoyed that, and have a real soft spot for Loch Enoch. Glad all the prep and lugging turned into a fine memorable 2-dayer, even with the change of plan.

Thanks, Emma.

It's a lovely part of the world, feels properly rugged and remote. Already plotting the next trip south :D

Merrick and, um, More Merrick

The first week in May and I am off work as is my habit and have decided to dig the old tent out for a wee overnighter in Galloway Forest Park. It's a couple of years since I've been down this way and I've been thinking for some time a camp out in the general vicinity of Loch Enoch would be pretty fi...

Re: Trenchant comment on the Ukraine situation from a walker

There was quite a bit of graffiti on the whw from rowardenan on wards , looked like it came from an asylum seeker with mental health problems ,his statements were aimed at the police ,mi5 , the NHS and not being allowed to work , I found it very annoying as the individual had written something on m...

Re: National 3 Peak Challenge

Getting from Scafell to Nevis in 5 hours seems a tad optimistic even if you aren't taking any breaks to be honest. I'd allow for more driving time there, not sure about the Snowdon to Scafell drive, it's a long time since I was in North Wales, but possibly that may take longer than you're allowing f...

Beinn an Lochain

Spur of the moment decision for a beautiful spring Sunday. Didn't have that much time so went for the old favourite. Glorious day, views were stunning, wind was warm, blether good, what more can you ask? Beinn an Lochain never disappoints. IMG_0341.JPG IMG_0348.JPG IMG_0350.JPG IMG_0356.JPG IMG_0357...

Beinn Eich and Doune Hill

Was going to write up a proper report on my Easter Monday excursion but don't really have time so will just archive a few snaps. Was a nice quiet day, didn't see another soul despite being a bank holiday, weather stayed dry. $matches[2] $matches[2] $matches[2] IMG_0214 (1).JPG IMG_0218.JPG IMG_0224....

Re: Luss parking query

I was on the Luss hills Easter Monday, the parking is indeed now £1 per hour with no 'all day' rate but you can at least pay when you leave so don't have to guesstimate how long you'll be. Oh, and they generously grant a 10 minute grace period. The machines take cards and coins, I can't say as I not...

Re: Remote hiking issue

I'm rather perturbed to discover I'm a ' bluff old crusty', I'm still the right side of 50 dagnammit! But yeah, I guess there's a generational divide here, we just don't expect to be in constant touch with each other and I never do more than let my better half know where I'm going and when I'll be b...

Re: First aid courses

I did my original first aid training with St Andrews who seem to have places available on various courses in the Glasgow area (I didn't check further afield). https://www.firstaid.org.uk/ To be honest, I prefer the Red Cross though, I find their approach more relaxed (all my refresher courses have b...

Re: River crossing

"It was getting a bit tricky for balance trying to hold a pair of boots and edge along all the stone barefoot, so when I got half way across I threw the boots to the other side." The trick is to tie your boots together by the laces and drape them round your neck. I like a good wade, find ...
