Re: A gentle stroll in the Brecon Beacons

All 4 is a regular day out for me - sometimes 5 with Waun Rydd (does give a nice view of the Black Mountains).

Loving the Dog on summit photos - esp on the diving board (I always try to grab a photo there).

Re: High level traverse, Pillar.

Only 5 weeks ago I was there - seems like ages ago. Was tempted to have a closed look at the slab and notch then - but without a rope I didn't fancy getting up and not being able to descend! (Most people ab off anyway).

Re: Climbers Traverse Great Gable

Wondering how well this would work as a descent route? Seems to be both up and downclimbs when ascending. What do you think?

Re: Illgill Head & Whin Rigg (Wast Water screes) - Lakes day

Alteknacker was wondering how I kept the weight down to 9kg (that includes a tent) and it's all in a Deuter 26L pack...... Thanks for the inf. I'll take a careful look at what I take next time. I'm impressed at how small the bag packs down. I have a very warm synthetic, but it's huge; so I ended up...

Re: Wasdale Horseshoe 12: Yewbarrow to Scafell - & clear sky

As regards the Mosedale and Kentmere horseshoes, I look forward to reading your reports - and especially seeing a picture of the 9kg pack that will accommodate gear for a wild camp  You must be doing it in running gear and a bivvy!!! I plan to be up Ben Starav and adjacent hills on Thursday....

Re: Illgill Head & Whin Rigg (Wast Water screes) - Lakes day

Alteknacker was wondering how I kept the weight down to 9kg (that includes a tent) and it's all in a Deuter 26L pack. I reckon I could get below 8kg with a new pack (the Deuter is heavy at 1.6kg) and there scope for a bit of weight savings elsewhere as well. This is basically a minimum overnight set...

Neuadd Horseshoe

Not that much to say about this standard circuit of the main Brecon Beacons. Bit of cloud around, some drizzle, overall a good day for the Brecons. track (18).gpx Aisde from views (or not at times) and good company. The main event of the day was me taking a dive into a clump of heather. I moved to t...

Re: Woolpack Walk - 10 peaks, 10 hours - Around Eskdale

Yes that's me - well done to you and team on completing. Good to hear from you - how long have you been searching for me on 'net :-) Y3P is still on my list - but plenty of Wainwrights and some classic welsh lumps to knock off as well. There's always this for next year? http://www.walkhighlands.co.u...

Re: Illgill Head & Whin Rigg (Wast Water screes) - Lakes day

There will be more - not that often perhaps - but it does make a great way of bagging the lower a tops and squeezing the most out of my limited time in the area. If I hadn't been going down with the cold I would have camped on Lingmoor rather than the NT site below it. P.S. Some of the 950m was the ...

Lingmoor and Nab Scar - Lakes Day 4

Had planned the Kentmere Horseshoe for today before heading home - but the cloud had come in and I was going down with a cold - ended the previous day with a slight sore throat and woke with a vicious one. So decided to pick off Lingmoor (behind the camp site) and Nab Scar (missed when we did the Fa...

Middle Fell, Haycock, Caw, Seatallan and Buckbarrow - Day 3

These were my remaining Wainwrights around Wasdale so time to knock them off in one go. route (3).gpx I arrived at the parking spot just after the loan lady walker I had walked with the day before! She was just doing Middle Fell today so we set off together. Middle fell doesn't sound like much but i...

Mosdale Horseshoe - Lakes Day 2

After a second breakfast (a mug shot!) back down at Wasdale Head I was off again on the Mosdale Horseshoe (including the shamrock traverse). Packed some extra water as the weather was glorious (was almost tempted to leave out waterproofs). track (15).gpx Having got to the end of this report I realis...

Illgill Head & Whin Rigg (Wast Water screes) - Lakes day 1

Having nabbed Green Crag on the way in and enjoyed a burger and a pint and the Wasdale Head Inn it was now time to head off to bed. Which tonight was on Illgill Head - my first wild camping experience. track (14).gpx The route up is quite straight forward, although I really felt the difference carry...

Green Crag - Lakes day 1

Passing by on the way to Wasdale Head for a few (summit packed) days to had to pick this off on the way. track (13).gpx Not much to say really - a fairly pathless yomp over some boggy ground (thankfully it has been quite dry recently). The outline of Green Crag holds some promise when it comes into ...
