Re: Great Glen Way high route closure

Oh dear, I am very sorry that your recovery is complex and ongoing. Hopefully, over time it will be possible to build strength and add mobility in the ankle, so that longer and more comfortable walking becomes part of everyday life again.

Best wishes.

Re: Great Glen Way high route closure

Thanks for your helpful update. I hope by this time your ankle is recovering well after your small slip on Beinn Eoin. As someone in their 60s who mostly walks by themselves I was rather gripped by your account. I had a similar stumble on Cul Beag which sustained a lot of ankle ligament damage but n...

Re: Beinn Bhuidhe Knoydart

Many thanks for the various helpful points set out. All up at 19.5km and 1120m of ascent, I think I'll try the WH route. Ideally on a solid weather day, and after an early start following an overnight camp at Inverie, I should be able to mange this, albeit slowly. I may use the new track on descent,...

Beinn Bhuidhe Knoydart

In Knoydart a month ago on Meall Bhuidhe I noticed that there now appears to be a vehicle track running up beside the Allt Dubh to Loch Bhraomisaig. There appeared to be a locked gate for vehicle access but easy to step around on foot. I wondered if anyone has accessed this route (if allowed) onto B...

Re: Two highly-prized Knoydart hills in a day

Very impressive, big day out in great scenery. Lots of excellent detail to consider for when I attempt these hills. Thanks.

Re: 7 Fife Marilyns in company for a change

An early start and and an inspiring day out. A familiar annual round but one which is always enjoyable to read about.

Re: Foil Blanket, Mobile Phones, Helicopter Rescue, Broken B

Very impressive - the kit you had with you and the way you were able to keep your composure. Well done. Almost all my hilwalking is solo and the risk of a short stumble is ever present. It prompts reflection though; I doubt I would have had all the kit you had for such a walk, so change needed. Than...

Re: The North Loch Mullardoch Munros - a cautionary tale

I thought you did really well. It's a seriously long day at the best of times. Your navigation was sound and you knew where you were. Losing your rucksac with key stuff in it was a palava but this is an unexpected thing to happen. You slept well anyway; how you can roll down the hill a bit without w...

Re: Foula and Fair Isle for Marilyns

Great to see again this report. Hugely enjoyable. The extended details about who else was travelling with you etc. are always interesting as are the pictures.

Keep well.

Re: MUNRO ONE THOUSAND AND ONE

Congrats, impressive achievement. I've done nearly a 1000 munros but yet to finish a round. Still a few to do. At nearly 70 probably time to get a move on. Look forward to Graham reports from An Cruachan, Jura, Rum, South Uist, Harris, the far north and the rest. Just curious - has anyone ever compl...

Re: Cnoc Coinnich from Loch Goil

Many thanks for your update, it was very helpful. To date, I have existed with on the hill map and compass work and the back up of a very basic Garmin GPS unit to enter waypoints as necessary. This approach has largely worked well but with age (mid 60s and getting slower) now might be the time for m...

Re: Cnoc Coinnich from Loch Goil

Interesting route and fine scenery. I remember the steeple from 1970's scout camps. 20mins was the time set for the end of day run to the top. Can I ask, how you use technology on your routes. Do you use WH (or some other mapping software) to download routes to your mac and then gps. And when on mul...

Re: The not quite but almost naked rambler

In 2020, I passed a naked rambler with rucksac at the head of the Glenwinnel Burn path. He was coming down to join the path off Craighorn and I suspect he had not seen me ascending the path. Anyway, our paths crossed, we exchanced 'Good mornings' and went on our way. This is my only experience of su...

Re: What bike do I need?

The advice to buy a hardtail mountain bike (mtb), with straight bars and front suspension for £600 to £1000 is spot on. I would add a cautionery note on terrain though: basically, that cycling into Ben Alder is a breeze compared say with the rougher track into Glen Affric Youth Hostel. One of the co...
