Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Re: Northern Bottlenose Whale

On a memorable wet/windy non hillwalking day on Skye some 21 years ago (if my memory serves me right) in the days before the smoking ban was introduced, my walking companion insisted that we go for a cup of coffee in the Broadford Hotel so she could have a fag with it (the tea room was no smoking). ...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

I watched Braveheart, along with Waterworld and similar ridiculous renderings, on an endless flight to Australia some time ago, the only other options being sleeping or getting drunk, which as I don't drink were both of limited value to me. What a load of rubbish they were. My sympathies go out to ...

Re: Fide Coastal Path and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code

My memory of the FCP is that where there are places affected by tide, other options were available and signed but maybe my memory is playing tricks as we never had to use the alternatives. Also we had to walk alongside golf courses at times (these seemes to alternate with green caravan parks for lar...

I am afraid that my instructions to staff at the beginning of the tourist season was "bring out all the Brigadoon books" i.e. NOT Swing Hammer Swing and books of that ilk. I am reassured by this having never seen the film and having no knowledge of the plot. Sounds like I've not missed mu...

... or Margaret McKay, died aged 90 in 1814 at Badinloskin, Strathnaver during a Clearance? Indeed. Margaret Mackay was bedridden and in the family croft when on the instructions of the estate factor, Peter Sellar, the croft was set alight. Her family did manage to pull her from the building but sh...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Marilyn Monroe had Scottish ancestry but I guess that's not the answer either. No, both your suggestions were far younger and lived more recently than the subject who was only known in her local community during her long life. Further it was the way of her death, not the way of her life that made h...

Crieff Tryst or Crieff Drovers Tryst? Aka Michaelmas Market with lots of rowdieness and drunkeness, some maybe finding themselves on the Kind Gallows o' Crieff. Wholly correct. Thought the handsome coo (probably a bull actually) might do it. Your go. Thank-you, I was totally in the dark until your ...
