Re: Seeking the perfect Winters day on Ladhar Bheinn

What a fantastic report. Thank you for reminding us how stunning Scotland's mountains are. I doubt I'll ever climb this Munro as it is too challenging for me!

The photos are simply stunning.

Re: Alone on WHW: personal growth through walking

A superb piece of writing that captures really well the feelings many of us have about the Scottish great outdoors and long distance walks.

Re: Easy long Corbett Càrn an Fhreiceadain from Kingussie w

Thanks for posting. It's interesting to see the changes since I walked up this hill a couple of years ago.

Re: Sgurr Choinnich & Sgurr a' Chaorachain

An excellent report. I remember that wire bridge but I unstrapped my rucksack and leant forward on the too wire. I only got to the breach before Sgurr Choinnich on that occasion as I wasn't feeling too well. Thanks for showing me what I missed - getting older is a bit of a pain isn't it!! Lots of go...

Re: New deer fence on Beinn Bhreac-liath

Walked these hills 2nd September 2023 and can advise that over 20m of the deer fence are lying flat on the ground. Not sure if it’s been cut down or just fallen down but it’s all good for hillwalking. I recently received an email about this from Argyll and Bute council to tell me some of the backgr...

Dun Da Ghaoithe on a lovely September day

There is only one Corbett on Mull, Dun Da Ghaoithe, and it's a hill that is easily reached from the ferry terminal at Craignure without needing to take a car across to the island. I climbed the hill on a pleasantly warm day in September 2023. To maximise my time on the island I took the 07:25 sailin...

Beinn a' Bhuiridh by train

I climbed Beinn a' Bhuiridh in September 2023. This is another of my walks using public transport to access the hill. I based myself in Oban as I was also going to climb a hill on Mull the following day. The first train at a reasonable hour arrives at Loch Awe at 09.35 and there are return trains on...

Pap of Glencoe

There are already plenty of descriptions of this hill but maybe mine will add something different to those already posted. I climbed this 'Graham' (or as this forum calls them 'Fionas' ) in August 2023. Starting from just 4 metres above sea level at Glencoe village there is a considerable height gai...

Meall a' Phubuill from Fassfern by taxi and bus

I climbed the Corbett Meall a' Phubuill from Fassfern in August 2023. As I wasn't hiring a car this year I was relying on public transport. It is possible to reach Fassfern by bus or train. The Fort William to Mallaig bus passes then end of the road up to Fassfern village (about 10 minutes from the ...

Re: Munros, Corbetts, Grahams. Height gain from nearest road

My apologies. It was only after I posted my question that I realised I'd put it in the wrong section. Perhaps our moderator could move it?

Munros, Corbetts, Grahams. Height gain from nearest road

Three hill walks in Scotland last week set me thinking about the 'pecking order' that most hill walkers place the hills in Scotland. We all know that achieving climbing all the Munros comes out on top, followed by the Corbetts and then the Grahams (or as this site calls them the Fionas). After all i...

Luum Uilleim

I climbed Leum Uilleim in August 2023, arriving by the early morning train from Fort William and returning on the late afternoon service. With only four trains each way climbing hills from Corrour can result in very long waits if the walk takes longer than planned! Be warned that there are no timeta...

Re: Newtonmore 4 by train?

Ah! Another person using the train to get to the hills. Thanks for writing about your trip which I thoroughly enjoyed. It brought back some happy memories. Some years ago I climbed A' Chailleach, Carn Sgulain and Carn Dearg from Newtonmore in a day in between the northbound morning train and a north...

Re: Beinn Fhada and a'Glas Bheinn with a camp

Thanks for posting this report. It reminds me of two super days when I stayed at Shiel Bridge and climbed these two hills on two consecutive days doing that "long walk in" twice! One of my memories is seeing dozens of huge dragon flies (your photo reminded me of them). I also remember all ...

Congratulations on your epic "Munros by public transport" day out from Glasgow. You may have seen my webpage about climbing Munros using buses, trains and ferries at. https://www.steverabone.com/MunroWalker/munros_by_public_transport.htm However, your stamina for travelling by Citylink ove...
