Re: Climbing Bruach na Frithe in foggy condition

Thanks all for your good advice. We tried it and it wasn't too bad. It was just super foggy and hard to navigate. No trace of thunderstorm for the past two days. I think indeed Skye doesn't follow the Met Office weather prediction! :D

Munros accessible by public transport

Hi guys, I was wondering if you have any suggestions for some nice Munros which could be reached by public transport? I live in the South of England and want to make a weekend Munro hiking trip by first flying to Glasgow or Edinburgh and then continuing by train or bus (I don't own a car). I have al...

Climbing Bruach na Frithe in foggy condition

We just arrived in Isle of Skye staying in Broadford. The weather forecast seems foggy and thundery for the next two days :( . We were planning to climb the Bruach na Frithe tomorrow. Would it be even worth attempting to reach its top in foggy condition? Does anyone have any ideas on what else to do...

Climbing mountains/hills in Isle of Skye

Hi guys, I am planning to go to the Isle of Skye after a couple of weeks. I will stay there for about three days and planning to climb at least 2 mountains. Do you guys have any recommendations on which mountains/hills aren't very difficult to climb and not much of scrambling is needed? I was thinki...

Re: Mountain hiking boots recommendation

I got a lovely pair of Scarpa terra gtx from cotswold outdoors, super comfortable and soft. It was a great experience to get my feet measured and to get a suitable pair of boots. Excellent  Here's hoping you get many comfortable happy miles out them. I can highly recommend the HS12 proofing/c...

Re: How did you stay fit during lockdown?

Thanks Simon for starting this topic and very interesting stories from everyone. For both lockdowns I did so much of cycling, something like 50k in the weekends and daily long walks or running around the city. I think people who live near hills are very lucky in this regard. We had Cotswold of cours...

Re: How to get to the Isle of Skye by public transport?

Thank you so much all for your most helpful advice. It should be very easy to get there from Fort William then. I'll try to book some bnb already for the summer.

Re: First munro: In.. at the deep end

I plan to hike some mountains e.g. in the lake district and Scotland during this summer, I still can exchange these boots as I haven't used them yet. I thought being waterproof/goretex is essential because both places could easily be quite wet in summer as well? I think it is difficult to choose a ...

Re: First munro: In.. at the deep end

simon-b wrote:Jasmine, the Terras are not winter mountain boots. So if they were too hot for summer, they'd be useless, which they are quite clearly not. Despite their ever changing range, Scarpa have been making the Terra for years which suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Thanks Simon.

Re: First munro: In.. at the deep end

Fantastic journey! And well done Pam! To be honest I didn't know about the inaccessible pinnacle. I must plan to visit Skye sometime. Do you know if it is possible to get there by public transportation? I come from south of England. And btw, I heard you have used scarpa terra gtx boots. How have yo...
