Re: Maps and Maps

I don't know the difference between Harveys and OS for these specific areas. I guess that both Harvey as well as OS contain the critical information you need for navigating and will get you safely home. I have used both Harvey as well as OS for walks. The one plus for the Harvey Superwalker maps is ...

Re: Munro route preparation: recommended reading?

Thanks everyone for your contributions. I ordered the SMC Munros book, but I will definately take a list of other titles with me to Fort William to select a nice souvenir in the bookshops over there.

Re: First Aid kid

Haha, :D @the kid vs kit joke. Missed the spelling mistake myself. On a more serious note: for starters you could use this site to determine the contents of a convenient kit: http://www.myfirstaidkit.eu/pages/Start.html I found the Mountaineering version a bit too bulky for backpacking purposes, so ...

Re: 3 days out-and-about in Fort William area. Any suggestio

Hi Monty, Thanks for the reply. Your remark about skipping Bidean nam Bian and exchanging it for The Grey Corries and the Aonachs looks tempting, but I guess I'll pass for that one :( . I read your walk report on the Corries with great interest, but I guess the 34 km and 3000m ascent is looking a bi...

3 days out-and-about in Fort William area. Any suggestions?

In another thread Monty asked some specific questions regarding our planned trip to Scotland. In this thread I would like to discuss our plans (as not to confuse the "recommended reading" thread with route discussions). We are coming over to Scotland on Thursday the 13th. We'll land on Edi...

Re: A slightly different view of the Kaisergebirge

Cool! I was in the region also during the last week of July and 1st week of august. I climbed the Hohe Salve and had a different view on the same mountain range. Where did you start your flight? I was camping at the bottom of the Zellerwand near Flugplatz Unterwössen and did enjoy the gliders and mo...

Re: Munro route preparation: recommended reading?

I guess I stirred up a hornets nest and started a discussion between people who like books and people who find books not necessary in the Internet era. Although I grew up with internet all around me I do like books. I do not consider myself an old fart (I am 36). For general reference I do l...

Re: Munro route preparation: recommended reading?

Hi NickyRannoch, Thanks for your reply. Sorry to put you on the wrong foot. Maybe I expressed myself wrongly. The fact that we did a waymarked path earlier does not rule out our skills :-) Both me and my friend are familiar with GPS as well as compass/map navigational skills. I am already in the pos...

Munro route preparation: recommended reading?

Hi Everybody In april this year my friend and I walked the WHW in 6 days while wild camping and got the taste of the Scottish surroundings. In September we are planning to return for a long weekend (say hurray to affordable Ryanair/Easyjet flights  ). This time we are keeping the heavy gear in...

Re: Ben Nevis, Carn Mor Dearg

Thanks for the nice report.

We were in Glen Nevis @25/4 but reading your description I am glad we did not even try to reach the summit along the tourist path.

SUW - Memories of a trip long-long time ago....

While planning our West Highland Way trip I ended up at this site. See also my "hello" post in which I have some questions regarding an alternative for the last stage of the WHW. The preparations brought up fond memories of a trip I undertook more than a decade ago. At that time I placed t...
