Re: Scottish Hills
At what pace can you cope with them? I have 300+ Trs that were Scottishhills only, and I imagine you don't want an avalanche. I put one up about Ben Aden last night as a memorial to Shills, but when should I put up the next, tonight, next week, next month? There may be a lot of people who would lik...

Re: Increasing Max password length
Hi Gav I don't think passwords have any connection to the demise of Scottish Hills. The best way to have a secure password is: - to include combo of letters (both cases), numbers and also symbols in it - for it not to contain / be made up of real words - to use a different password for every website...

Re: Scottish Hills
It is sad to see Scottish Hills go, but if anyone does want to post their (own!) old reports or move their accounts to Walkhighlands we're very happy to have them. Old reports are valuable as people read them from the hill pages when researching / planning walks. Several Scottish hills users had rep...

Re: Hills Maps Not Working
If it’s been broken a long time it was probably corrupted from before I changed the cache duration. It should work on safari too eventually! We’re in the process of commissioning a new map server and new mapping so all historical issues will go at that point.

Re: Hills Maps Not Working
Presumably all the devices are on the same connection, and the GPS planner works too - so it's not anything to do with triggering a server ban which has happened to a few people. Have you tried a different browser on the Mac? If it works then that would show it to be a cache issue. If it's been brok...

Re: Hills Maps Not Working
I’ve bought to an iPhone mostly to check/test this issue and some new functionality, but haven’t yet experienced hill maps not loading. It is a problem with Safari incorrectly caching files as users with two devices will experience on one device and not the other. There are posters in the thread des...

Re: Slight change to Route
Hi Jean Thanks for this. I've done my best to our description from your email and latest aerial photos, but aren't completely sure. If you could tell me if you think I've got it right - you could do that here, or usually people send us updates to our update mailbox at editor@walkhighlands.co.uk - th...

Re: Halterburn circuit & the Schil walk - no GPS positions
Thanks for letting us know, and apologies for this. Several GPX files got broken when I put the character "&" into the walk name to shorten it (for neater display on certain mobile phones). I've just gone through all areas and can't find any more affected walks, but if anyone does then...

Re: Balsporran railway crossing
It's a private crossing, and my understanding is that Network Rail believe there is no public right to cross, which means a very long detour through pathless bog is needed. They rate the crossing as 'C' which is Very High Risk for individuals. But the gates at Balsporran are not (yet) locked - thoug...

Re: WH coming and going
Can you explain what you mean by 'wouldn't send'? Did it bounce back to you with a message? I get 50-100 emails every day, excluding the spam, so that sounds very odd; I've never had anyone say they couldn't email me. We've still not had any server downtime -it's been up continuously without any reb...

Our understanding is that these posts are not a problem if the mention isn't about a nest site.

Re: electric cars
How do you find the electric car in winter, does it take longer to charge, battery power when using the heater etc, do you preheat the car when connected to the charger at home , be interesting to know your thoughts. Does anyone have experience of how different the range on electric cars is in wint...

Re: electric cars
We drive an electric car - a wee Renault Zoe. Does far, far better in the Highlands than you might expect. The range is at its best when on the narrow twisting roads - for instance, we've done Kinloch Hourn or Strathan (Loch Arkaig) as a comfy day trip out and back from Cromdale, with plenty power l...

Re: Bothies and the CWT
I actually think most of Scotland is looking much better this year than the immediate post-lockdown. To my mind bothies are in a much better state today than say 25 years ago when I was first using them. Saw next to no litter all round the NC500 this year (plenty of farm rubbish) and hills clear. Ve...
