Yeah. It’s defo a hillwalk with a difference. I’m glad you’re putting it off until spring ‘24 now the good weather is behind us. Look forward to reading of your experience, cheers

Not that I'm a plane spotter but the big one looks more like a C17

Happy to be corrected. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had my wires crossed identifying military aircraft. Amended report to suit, cheers

Mullach Mor, Holy Isle

Possible heatwave talk was in place for early September. As I get ready to wind the adventures down for the year, I pinged my pal a text seeing if he fancied another assault on the Mamores or nearby Aonachs in the Fort William area after exhilarating fun on the Ring of Steall recently. To my delight...

Testing our Mettle on Ring of Steall

I picked my friend up at 4am and left Saltcoats for what turned out to be my toughest assignment to date, the Ring of Steall. It was a massive day out and really tested my fitness levels. Kudos to the people who can extend and take in the additional six other Mamores in one outing - four was enough ...

Unfinished Business on Lawers

Two and a bit years on from when I completed the ‘other’ Lawers four - Beinn Ghlas, Ben Lawers, Meall Corranaich, Meall a’Choire Leith; in that order - I was delighted to be back on this day to complete the other three in question from the range with the same man I tackled the initial quartet with. ...

Montana Blanca, Lanzarote

I arrived in Lanzarote for a week’s holiday on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen. I had no hillwalking experiece outwith the UK, yet, I harbour ambition of going up Mount Teide when I return to the Canaries in December. Our bedroom in the apartment looked out onto a fair sized hill. It dominates th...

Beinn Sgulaird, remember the sunscreen

After a double-header walking in Arran last weekend, it was time to switch my attention to the Munros again now we’re in April and the weather turning in my favour. I had Beinn Sgulaird on my radar for a while and purposely kept it back for my first Munro for 2023, for the principal reason that it’s...

I found my thrill on Goldenberry hill

A small but select few of us done this loop which starts at the Portencross carpark. The route heads north along the Ayrshire Coastal Path under the shadows of the the three sisters cliffs before a climb up through the forest. After Goldenberry Hill's summit it's a general southerly direction that w...

No-Karting at Knock Hill

I’ve done the Knock a few times over the years. It’s usually one I keep for the turn of the year as it’s local to me and I often use it to kickstart my hill fitness. I don’t really bother with the outdoors much when winter kicks in. I enjoy hillwalking, but with shorter daylight hours, long drives t...

Ironing Out the Creise

Fresh from doing the Glen Lyon Horseshoe in clear but sweltering conditions only two days’ previous, I had a free weekend to set my sights on a new challenge. As a resident of North Ayrshire, I have done many of the munros which are ‘local’ geographically, but if I want to ever complete all 282, it’...

Schooling on Schoolhouse Ridge

I parked at the Ballachulish Visitor Centre at 0645 on a fine Saturday morning. There was next to no traffic on the A82 on the 2hour drive there and this was matched on the near empty car park. Gathered my belongings and quick call of nature at the toilets (50p cash or card) next to the centre and m...

Southern Stobs at Black Mount

Second time in as many weeks to bag a brace of munros, again, in the Argyll area. Heading northbound on the A82 carriageway, I took a left immediately after the Bridge of Orchy hotel which then takes you onto a single track road for four miles, past the Inverornan hotel to which there is a sign beyo...

Beinn a’Chochuill & Beinn Eunaich

Until now, I had been to Arran half a dozen times or so far this year trying to maintain some sort of fitness and trying to shed my winter coat. I had always planned to return to the munros once Spring returned and get some new ones under my belt, it really is a fantastic hobby when you get the cond...

Re: Cryinlarich: No More, Ben!

Hi rockhopper, Yeah totally agree with the point you make first paragraph, you can’t afford to be complacent in they situations. That’s good you managed to get back in control after your glissading went awry. I would imagine many more have had a bit of hassle on the descent. Esp as the walkhighlands...

Cryinlarich: No More, Ben!

I had a mild obsession with the Ben More webcam for the week prior to doing this brace. Light dustings of snow was prevalent in the gallery, although, regressing as the week progressed. A dry forecast was in store too by November’s standards. The Alpine conditions I had concern for never materialise...
