Re: Pine Martins in Inverness

On the way home from work last week and saw a Pine Martin, unfortunately by the side of the road. But the slip road from the A9 north out of Inverness down to the roundabout for the A96 ??? Pretty sure I wasn't mistaken as I've seen them close up whilst on holiday one year, coming right up to the p...

How far do you need to go to see wildlife?

Not far at all, this 'Common' Lizard was in our kitchen sink last weekend when my wife to strain the veg!

Common Lizard

No we didn't eat it, after taking the photo it was taken back out to the garden and released safely.
Hot temperatures and lizards indoors, its more like Greece than Scotland!

Re: Rock Pipit

(Anthus Petrosus) - I think? I am gong to pick you up on a typo (ya boo sucks I hear you shout!) . 2nd word of a Latin name is without a capital letter to start with so its Anthus petrosus which I am sure is what you meant. When I looked it up it didn't have a capital and I thought that was a typo!...

Tawny Owl

I heard a commotion in the local woods (Urquhart Bay Woods, Drumnadrochit) while walking the dog on Sunday and after standing and looking for what seemed like an age I spotted this pretty bird high in the trees attracting the attention of a lot of song birds. I saw it from the back first and initial...

Re: Do buzzards screech as well as mew?

It's quite small, but the lower bird in the third photo looks a lot like a Kite to me????

Tom a'Choinich and Toll Creagach

First two Munros of the year for me and thoroughly enjoyable too. Glen Affric put on a show for the drive up, Loch Beinn a'Mheadoin was like glass reflecting the occasional patches of blue sky, glimpses of sunlight, bright green foliage and most of all large fluffy clouds of low mist. We set off at ...

Re: Any thoughts on a DSLR

I have an Olympus E510 DSLR and love it; it has been around a few years now, but Currys have an exclusive on the E600 which is an E620 without the 'arty stuff' for only £329 at the moment. The E600 is quite small for a DSLR, but still has a flip out screen and all the usual features; it comes with a...

Re: Long distance routes

The links to the Great Glen Way and the Kintyre Way don't seem to be working. I am at work so maybe it is something to do with the setup here, but the other links seem to be OK?

Another superb Autumn day in the Highlands

The idea of doing this route was to 'break-in' the new boots, wearing them around the house wasn't proving too popular and a few circuits of Drumnadrochit woods wasn't much of a test. The weather looked better in the west so off we set with an idea this would be a bit of a stroll, I had glanced at t...

Re: Sgurr nan Conbhairean

I was looking more closely at the photos and spotted the detail below. It looks like the the cloud is pouring over the dam - very strange. Apologies for the quality as this is digitally zoomed/cropped very tight from a much wider image, but there seem to be some fans of inversions around and I thoug...

Plockton Coral Beach

This walk is probably less than an hour for the 'there and back', but we found this to be such an enchanting and peaceful location that we pottered around for more than an hour. The sea was totally still (no waves at all?!), the sun was shining and we were the only ones there. below are a few photos...

Sgurr nan Conbhairean

Munro 1 and 2 for the other half, 2 and 3 for me (did Ben Nevis many years ago) completed today (17/10/2009) and boy what a day! Weather could not have been better. We arrived at Cluanie in thick fog just before 10am and set off with the intention of 'going as far as we could' and soon emerged from ...
