Re: The Aonach Eagach on a whim.

Has there ever been a better placed pub.

Had a couple of cider shandies here after finishing the route. Needed two as the first one didn't hit the sides.

Great report and what a day you got.

Re: Trail / Approach shoes which one's to go for.

Hi guys, Thamks for all the advice. I eventually went for a pair of merrells, and had to order a size bigger. Fit is excellent. Un-fortunately they did not arrive in time. Maggies was done in an old pair of Merrelles and a pair of Karrimor lightweight boots. Again I ended up with bad blisters so now...

Re: WHW Kit

Hi Scott, Its worth looking at walking poles. Bit of a macho thing not to use them but they do take the strain as they say. Its a good idea to practise with them as well so that you are used to them, practise with hand in / out of the loops. I have sticky tape below the hand grips so that I can use ...

Trail / Approach shoes which one's to go for.

Turning to this forum again for some advice. I am looking to get a pair of trail shoes but I am unsure which ones to go for. I have always worn boot on the hill and have usually tried to persuade others to do the same, depending on the terrain and the amount of ankle support they require. So why you...

Re: Paramo Aspira Jacket

Hi, Like you I reached a crossroads in my walking world and had to decide on waterproofs for my hill walking. I have been walking for years and started of with a Berghaus jacket that had the fleece, quilt as pert of the jacket. It served me well for a number of years but was not ideal when my walkin...

Re: Accommodation recomendations in the Lakes

Hi MC, Thanks for the quick response. looking to bag a few popular tops / routes. So looking to locate centrally. Keen to do Striding Edge, Great Gable etc. Not really done the lakes - not so easy to get to from Lewis. Have had a quick look at youth hostels & camping barns, as you know there is ...

Re: Post your best photo

Some stunning pics here guys..

Wonder how much people spent on cameras to get these shots. Countryfile ran a comp with the winninh pic of the sheep"going home" taken with a sub £100 digital camers.

Here's one of my favourites

Re: South Uist, Beinn Mhor and a twisted ankle.

Hi Mountainstar. Sorry to read about your ankle, it would have put a bit of a dampner on your trip. One consolation, if there are any is that it happened there and not on the way out to the bothy. That's as remote as it gets out there. Took a group of young people out there a number of years ago on ...

Re: Walking Poles

Like most I shied away from using pole(s) for walking but, after twisting my knee on a downhill bit I was offered a couple of poles to help me of the hill. They were a blessing. I went straight out and got a set. As mentioned elsewhere you need to be careful when scrambling esp going downhill taking...

Re: Gillaval Glas Round (half of) - aka The Germans

Hi Mountain Coward, I live in Lewis, its true what they say "you don't appreciate what you have on your doorstep". I did this horseshoe recently, and like you ended up walking for most of the day in a typical Hebridean mist. We were subjected to fantastic views at various times of the day ...
