Re: Ideas for Viewranger replacement.
I hope it goes some way to helping. It does, a lot, thanks so much for the detailed reply! I've had another look myself after reading this and can see a few things the Thunderforest maps are lacking now that OpenTopo has detail for. I see your point about the OS Opendata contour lines too.. Have yo...

Re: Ideas for Viewranger replacement.
I'm not sure if anyone is keeping an eye out for further comments on this thread but I feel it worth mentioning that the full paid version of the Alpinequest app has just incorporated some of the open source data provided by OS. This includes 1:25k rock detailing such as outcrops, scree and cliffs....

Wild camping spots on Harris and Lewis?
Looking for some nice secluded spots away from the campsites. Has anyone got any knowledge of any or suggestions for areas to look in?
As a side note, would we need to bring our own wood to make (safe) fires, or is there enough woodland to get by?
Thanks.

MSR Hubba Hubba in wind?
Would it be a silly idea to go wild camping on Harris and Lewis and then Uist with this tent? I have never been and don't have much camping experience but I've read that the main issue with this tent is that it can be vulnerable to wind. It's not been tested in heavy wind yet. I'm going with friends...

Do you need a groundsheet with an enclosed tent?
For general wildcamping in Scotland. Also going to the outer hebs soon. Have an MSR Hubba Hubba that has worked so far without a separate groundsheet. Why do people use groundsheets then and are they needed here?

Clothing advice for a newbie?
Hello! I'm looking for some help on buying some new clothes. I'm hopefully going to go to a few shops too to try stuff on. I have a bunch of clothes I've gathered from/during a long trip, but I hadn't got into hiking or camping back then. I've been on a several short camping and hiking trips since b...

Pot(s) for one to two people?
Hi As a very inexperienced newbie, I'm pretty sold on the ease of using a Soto Amicus with a gas cannister for some trips this year. What pots would be good for solo and two person trips for a few days sharing this stove? I've seen a set including the Amicus stove and a 1 litre pot. From what I've r...

Re: 3 season sleeping bag/quilt?
Thanks all! Might just go and pick up a pipedream 400 in the sale then, sounds like it'd do me fine mostly. Maybe I'll take a liner with me for early spring/late autumn in case I need the extra heat, and maybe pick up a cheaper synthetic in summer if I find myself consistently too hot. That should h...

3 season sleeping bag/quilt?
Hi I'm quite new to backpacking, having mostly only been on summer trips for a few days with a more experienced friend. My first solo trip went pretty well but my cheap sleeping bag takes up half my bag space and weighs 2kg  . I want to replace this and also expand the range I can camp in to ...
