Re: Eating/drinking on the West Highland Way

WOW!! Many thanks to everyone who's taken the time to respond to this, I've been on holiday for most of the last week, and I've just caught up with the responses. I'll have a good look through all the suggestions, I'm sure we'll be well fed and watered after following your advice!

Many thanks!

Eating/drinking on the West Highland Way

My walking buddy and me are setting off on the WHW in a couple of weeks time, this will be our first time. I'm hoping some members out there can suggest, recommend or even warn us against, some of the various eateries and drinking establishments along the way. Also, am I correct to assume the prices...

Re: WHW Baggage Carriers

Again, thank you to everyone who has taken time to respond to my query. I've pretty much decided to go with the carrier service option. Now we just need to decide where we're stopping each night so I can let them know!
Thanks again!

Re: WHW Baggage Carriers

Thanks for the responses guys! I can see where you're coming from re the sense of accomplishment when carrying all of our equipment, my walking buddy (who I'm doing the WHW with) is keen to do just that! However, this is our first long distance walk, and while I'm pretty sure we'll complete it in th...

WHW Baggage Carriers

Looking to do the WHW this year. Do I use a baggage carrier or do I carry everything on my (dodgy!) back? If I go for the carrier option, does anyone out there have a recommendation?

Re: Wild camping Glencoe/Glen Nevis

Wow! Thanks for all the replies, that's certainly given me a lot to consider! I was thinking of a roadside/layby type of situation, with the intention of getting an early start on an as yet undecided hill. I live in the Borders and the thought of driving for 3 hrs and then hiking up a munro or two, ...

Wild camping Glencoe/Glen Nevis

Sorry if there is already a thread for this, but i couldn't find one...although I didn't look THAT hard! Is it still possible to wild camp in Glencoe and/or Glen Nevis, I'm sure I read somewhere online that it wasn't, although I can't remember where! If it IS ok, does anyone have any suggestions as ...

At last, I get to see Loch Skeen...sort of!

I've driven along this road loads of times, and although I'd stopped at the car park at the foot of the Grey Mares Tail, I hadn't ventured far up the path, it had become one of those walks I REALLY wanted to do but, although it's right on my doorstep (compared to most of the other walks I've done), ...

A return to Ben Vorlich and Stuc a Chroin

Last October, Neil, my usual walking partner, and I successfully ticked off these two, the weather that day was awful, wet and windy and even some sleet...I think I summed that walk up as a "slog", and while I enjoyed the day, I wasn't in any hurry to return! Anyway....fast forward about 9...

A sneaky midweeker on the Cobbler and Narnain.

These two peaks have loads of reports on WH so I'll try to keep this brief, and let the pics do most of the talking.Neil and I had the same midweek day off, and as the weather was still favourable, we nipped up to Succoth to have a wee walk up The Cobbler, and to have another (our second!) attempt a...

Re: Factor 50 and cold feet on Ben Vane

I thought about asking him for water as we walked back to the car park, but when we reached his hut it was shut! The overpriced Irn Bru I bought at the cafe at the car park was the best one I've tasted EVER!!! It didn't touch the sides!

Factor 50 and cold feet on Ben Vane

Taking advantage of the excellent forecast, we, headed up to Loch Lomond, arriving at the visitor centre at Inveruglas at 8.30, the car park was already quite busy with tourist buses and walkers. The scenery around Loch Lomond was stunning, but we didn't hang about for too long, we were planning on s...

High winds (and a Ptarmigan) on the Tarmachan Ridge.

We'd been wanting to do this walk since September last year when we'd hiked up Ben Lawers and (when the clag eventually lifted!) we could see across to Meall nan Tarmachan on our descent via Beinn Ghlas. The weather, work and other commitments meant we'd only had one outing this year so far, Ben Ime...
