Re: The Scottish 4,000ers in aid of MRT

Basically Paul it was a summary of the first post on this threat with the additional details of Bio-man's planned walk - it was right on the front page under Cameron McNeish's editorial

Re: The Scottish 4,000ers in aid of MRT

Hi Bio-man -saw your letter in TGO - front page as well so should be a great boost for sponsorship - do you have a route map for publication yet - as you know I've said I'd be happy to support/transport kit etc

Re: Real Monarch of the Glen

I've been watching this on telly for the past few weeks - I have to say my impression that this was a moneymaking scheme and nothing to do with conservation have been confirmed - I would really hate to work for this guy - there seems to be little regard for the estate or for the local community - I ...

Re: Real Monarch of the Glen

Either they haven't got their act together or they have another agenda - my inclination is for the former - conspiracy is much less likely than incompetence :)

Re: Real Monarch of the Glen

Very interesting Paul - confirms my initial reaction that Alladale would not be large enough to support a population of wolves and bears. Give the MCoS reaction I can't see that many nearby landowners would want to be involved in the scheme

Re: Hi from down here .......

I think there was a report on it back in July, Mike, but I believe it was still usable with care - it may have been repaired by now - Paul would be able to tell you more its in his backyard I'm also 61 and still walking - not quite as far south as you - I'm in Swindon Enjoy your trip - I did Glen Sh...

Re: What is the best hill in Scotland?

I have to go for Suilven as number one - its not particularly high or difficult but the walk in is quite daunting so its a hill you really have to commit to - plus the views to the SW have to be the finest in Scotland :)

Re: walking in the rain

It can be hard if you have a limited time in Scotland but you need to allow for the weather in your plans - last time I was up I had 6 days but only planned to do 3 mountains which was just as well - I managed my three but when the weather really socked in I went coast walking or went valley walking...

Re: walking in the rain

I don't mind walking in the rain - half the fun of walking is to see the mountains in all conditions - the only weather I really don't like is horizontal hail - besides if we only walked in sunshine there would be no spectacular sunsets, no broken spectres, no cloud inversions or any of the other th...

Re: The Saddle, Forcan Ridge and Sgurr na Sgine

I think you would find Sgurr na Sgine is better approached from Bealach an Toiteil rather than coming across from The Saddle - that way you get an interesting Grade 1 scramble up the 'nose' - I would suggest that the direct route from Glen Shiel is a bit of a flog

Re: Slow worm - Strathfarrar

Slow worms are not true snakes - their actually legless lizards - if they are cornered by a predator they will drop their tail which regrows - thus ends todays piece of useless information :)

Re: Highland Emergency

I agree with you Paul - program content was good but annoying the way they switched from Tower Ridge to Cairngorms to the Outer Hebrides - wonder what happened to the arm chair ? Do we know when Bio-man is on yet ?

Re: must do hikes

You guys sound pretty experienced so can I make a couple of suggestions. If you're going to do Ben Nevis I would suggest you have a go at the Cairn Mor Deagh arete - this is a superb ridge walk and gives you the finest views of the north face of the Ben. If you're going to be in the Loch Lomond area...

Re: Czech Greetings From Dundee ;-)

Welcome guys - I have to say that for me the North West Highlands particularly Assynt is the most fascinating part of Scotland - the only other place I know like it is in northern Canada
