When are the Munros not the Munros?

Using the information available on my website and on the Database of British Hills, I have done a comparison of the current Munro list against Sir Hugh Munro's original 1891 list. To my surprise there are now 32 original Munros no longer in the current list. To complete "the Munros" do you...

Re: Beinn a'Chearcaill - with memories of Morrison's Gully

Thanks Annie. I wondered if you were using a polarizing filter. I've tried using one but keeping it on all day. It is great for sky shots but not good for wildlife shots so the answer may be to keep it off by default and only put it on for the sky shots.

Re: Beinn a'Chearcaill - with memories of Morrison's Gully

Terrific report with nice atmospheric photos. Beinn a'Chearcaill is one of my favourite Grahams - a very distinctive summit area. Can I ask please what kind of filter(s) you are using on your camera? Thanks

Re: Does the eastern summit of Stac Pollaidh 'count'?

Getting to the true summit of Stac Pollaidh involves scrambling/climbing a short rocky tower. Many scramble along the ridge as far as the large cairn to the West without going up the rocky tower to get to the true summit. If going to the true summit, you can climb the rocky tower direct or go down a...

Re: Found gaiters on Binnein Shuas

Thanks Malky, not my gaiters. Sorry I missed you up there Blackpanther. Was a lovely day. I could see two people standing at the summit during my ascent but by the time I got there they had gone. Possibly yourselves. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii235/foggieclimber/Scottish%20Hills%204/Binnein...

Pillar, Black Crag, Scoat Fell, Steeple and Red Pike

On my final day of Lakeland walking, I hit the weather jackpot. Rain, snow, low-cloud, strong winds and bitter cold were at last exchanged for sunshine, blue skies, warmth and a gentle breeze. For my seventh consecutive day of walking, I was able to undertake one of my 'Plan A' ideas - the Mosedale ...

Re: An Stac, Meith Bheinn, Loch Morar and the back of beyond

I've been looking forward to seeing your report since seeing your pics on FB. It doesn't disappoint! Great pics of an epic journey into real remote territory. I have been pondering the maps for months (possibly years) looking at these without finding an "easy" route. My favoured route is v...

3 pics taken in an hour

All three pics taken, within an hour (well actually 62 minutes) of each other on Sgor Gaoith. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii235/foggieclimber/Scottish%20Hills%204/Sgor%20Gaoith/sgorgaoith23.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii235/foggieclimber/Scottish%20Hills%204/Sgor%20Gaoith/sgorgaoit...

Re: Sgor Gaoith, its Tops and great wildlife

Lucky you to get a good snap of the eagle! We saw two last week: one on Skye, one in Affric area, but didn't manage any pictures :( Are they too fast or are we too slow?  SG is one of those hills I'd love to re-do in winter conditions... If only for the view down to Loch Einich. I've tri...

Sgor Gaoith, its Tops and great wildlife

I met my friend John this morning at Lagganlia in Glen Feshie. We left my car at Lagganlia before continuing down Glen Feshie to the car park circa 1km from Auchlean. Our plan was to ascend Sgor Gaoith and its four Munro Tops. I had ascended Sgor Gaoith twice previously and two of the tops at least ...
