Re: Excellent Alder and Bheoil and how not to cycle in.

Enjoyed reading that. This trip must have preceded the locking of the railway crossing at Dalwhinnie which is making life a bit difficult for cyclists just now. :o Thank you - it was good fun (almost) the whole way round. We didn't go near the newly locked gate but parked at the filling station whi...

Re: Meall Greigh - 30 years later.. and Rudolph's 200th

Thanks to all for your good wishes on the 200.

All these summits and I'm still two behind the boss. Still it's nice to get that hill out the way. 30 years is a looooong time for a pack animal.

Re: GPS Device advice

Or take a spare USB battery pack for your phone?

Comforting to know it's there if you get into trouble too.

I had a basic Etrex but Viewranger or MXMapmobile is just so much more fun - except that it's harder to get a height reading.

Re: Alpkit PipeDream 400 vs Thermarest Questar HD 20

Another happy user of an original version of the Pd400. Does me for everything short of full winter conditions and has done for years.

Re: Path between the 8 Munros south of Loch Mullardoch

Like most faint paths, that stalkers path is fine when you are on it but depending on where you meet i can imagine it would be easy to walk straight across it.

Re: Sleeping Bag Liners

I just don't buy this approach. I've heard others say it before and it's no more convincing for me the more times I hearit :) ) Same here and for the same reasons. -but I wonder what it is that leads others to feel warmer with fewer layers on in a sleeping bag All I can think is that keeping the he...

Re: Is fleece really becoming obsolete?

I just simplified the issue, but ask Persil about the early law suit against 1 of their bios :) I just did ask (via Wiki) The lawsuit I found was nothing at all to do with the bio-component (enzyme). The problem was with the activated bleach which you are (were?) as likely to find in non-bio as bio...

£200 for one pair of socks and underpants sounds a lot. :)

Really? It felt scary enough to me. I guess it all depends what you are used to.

Re: Camping on the Orchy 5

Well done Shish. I've never bailed out a tent before - the hazards of a tent that pitches inner first! I like the way you make it sound as if the bypass path on Beinn Dorain was taken deliberately rather than cos' I missed the turn off for the real path. More seriously for others, bypassing Dothaidh...

restrictions on gas stoves in France?

Maybe an odd question but a friend of ours is going travelling through France shortly and wanted to take her gas stove (pocket rocket type thing) for the odd brew up by the side of the road.

She's wondering if there are any restrictions on that.
Can any one help?
