Re: Lost

If the clag's down and you're in the wide open spaces in the 'Gorms it's pretty easy for these things to happen. As regards to the following day, I can only assume he was hungry, disoriented and anxious. Heartwarming to see the posts on Facebook invaded by the usual moonhowlers demanding payment, an...

Re: 3 boring Beinns from Linn of Dee

I don't see why describing certain hills as boring is seen as such sacrilege tbh. There are many hundreds of hills in Scotland, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that a portion of them will be unexciting.

Re: Mam Sodhail bike?

We've not had a purist Vs cyclist debate for a while  I'm firmly in the "If a bike is practicable, I'll use it" camp. I cannot begin to imagine how tedious I'd find the long walks to even get to the likes of the Alder Hills and Sgarsoch/Fhidlheir would be. I'll cycle those every time ...

Re: Quinag (#222) - a Corbetts' compleation camp

Very well done Rockhopper. A great achievement and a wonderful report. That was a great read with cracking photos. Grahams next?

Re: Ben More (Mull) for Skinflints

Thanks folks, that's very useful. I think i'll probably go with the bike option from Craignure. The ascent over 18 miles isn't too dreadful (going by Strava). I reckon 1.5 hours each way on my MTB (less if i can be bothered swapping pedals on the road bike), and the hill should be doable in 4-5 hour...

Ben More (Mull) for Skinflints

I'm sure someone else on here is bound to have rubbered the expense of taking the car across to Mull on the Ferry and opted instead to travel across with a bike and cycled to the hill from Craignure. The road looks like 18 miles each way and not particularly hilly. Is this likely to be feasible in m...

Re: Mugdock Country Park access.

I would imagine it's perfectly legal, assuming it's the farmer's land. Anyone wanting to walk through it does so at their own risk.

Re: deer flies - keds

They were ridiculous on the Glenfinnan munros over the weekend, though weirdly only from about 400m to summit level. I'd got back to the campsite, had a shower and was still finding them on me hours later, having shed their wings

Re: How far can I cycle along the Slugain for Ben Avon?

I'm sure very competent MBrs can cycle all the way but I am not one of those. I like both wheels on the ground at any one time and whilst I prefer land rover tracks, I can manage a decent path as long as it's not too narrow or rocky. I just want to put some of those miles in on the bike rather than...

Re: Stalking In Glen Lyon

I'm sure Chesthill used to try to say stalking season was basically 1st September until 31st March

Closing the car park makes things a tad more challenging especially with the ticketing stuff though.

Re: Lawers Range from Glen Lyon

I have always parked by the bridge at NN620477. It's down this lane https://goo.gl/maps/NgcHHqWeguDDwg6V9 but I don't know if the "Road Closed" sign is still there (or can be ignored). Cheers - not sure if i'd get away with that with the current ticketing situation. I might just park at t...

Lawers Range from Glen Lyon

This is really about parking - I believe the usual start point for the Lawers 7 from the North is Camusvrachan - what's the situation re parking? I couldn't see anything obvious on Google Streetview. Cheers

Re: Railway Crossing at Dalwhinnie

Such crossings are, after all, extremely dangerous. No they're not The railway industry would beg to differ. As far as i am aware, no one has been killed at the Dalwhinnie Crossing for many, many years. If we guesstimate that an average of say 5 people a day use the crossing (and I'd further argue ...

Re: Most underrated hill range in Scotland

That wee cluster of hills just north of Loch Quoich and just South of the South Glen Sheil Ridge. Gorgeous hills. By far my favourites. Yup, totally agree with this. I've done the three munros there twice, and apart from my first visit to Sgurr a'Mhaoraich, have had perfect conditions and fantastic...

Re: For the record -

Personal attacks are being posted here. Note that we do not allow personal attacks and insults on the forum, if repeated they will result in a ban, whoever makes them. For the record, I eat my apple cores, which probably makes me a barbarian. You should ban yourself for that behaviour, imo
