There's no business like snow business (ta dah!)

Often seen the Corbett, Corryhabbie Hill from the B9009. It looks like a benign little mouse of a hill. We even tried to climb it once but got blown back down off the shoulder by the gale force winds. DSC06636sm.jpg DSC06637.JPG Today was very still and bitterly cold. So off to Corryhabbie Hill we t...

Return to Loch Muick

Last visited the area on a scorching (well okay warmish by non-Highland standards) day to complete the five Munros on the White Mount circuit. Today was a different beast minus 4 degrees C on the car (must've been at least minus 10 by the lochside  ) and pretty much snowing the whole time. DSC...

A banterous day-double Munros in Glen Affric

Had to come back for this pretty pair after a failed attempt in February. At the start of our walk Tom a Choinich dominates the horizon. DSC06986sm.jpg However this time we were graced with the presence of our No 1 son, Sam -home from Uni for Easter.....hence the "banter" thankfully Sam's ...

Re: First Hill with my buddy Rolo

Congrats to you both on your first hill   Hope you and Rolo get to enjoy more adventures out on the hills. Our dog, Nudge loves hill walking but he says to tell Rolo to stay away from bouldery peaks coz they are rough on the old paws

Cairn Toul- Braeriach traverse (minus Braeriach)

WH states that the "extremely fit" can manage this epic 22.5 miler in a day. We have a friend who runs desert ultra-Marathons for fun. He completed the Pennine Spine Challenge. He runs in excess of a 100 miles each week and climbs mountains with crampons, ropes and proper stuff. He is &quo...

Don't help the bees. They are not grateful insects.

Walk no 1 on our jaunt around the Braemar area. Last time we were at Keiloch car park we had two bikes, no dog and Ben Avon waiting for us. This time, no bikes, one dog and a gentle 5.4 miler instead. DSC05706nearInvercauldHouse.jpg DSC05707CragganRour Braemar.jpg DSC05711Craig leek.jpg The Hubs pic...

A jolly around a stunning little seaside village

Thought that 2.75 miles was hardly worth a drive out to Findhorn and so extended this pretty little walk to do a longer section on the beach as it was so lovely and the dog was in his element charging up and down the white sand. Having visited the Eco-village before we didn't detour and instead deto...

Extended jolly around Braemar

Extended this to 3.8 miles by adding on a jolly around Braemar (plus pre-walk coffee and cake at Taste) and a detour to the Mill House on the Cluny at the end. In Aviemore? Want to escape the crowds? This is for you

Parked in the mahoosive carpark at the MacDonald Highland resort (pool looks impressive) and joined the path just past the children's play area and the pond at the back of it. Going through the "under the A9" tunnel could be likened to climbing out the wardrobe in Narnia....a completely di...

Great report and top photos.   Did these a while back, great mountains. Looks like you had cracking weather too. Total respect to you for the wild camping...I'm much too wussy to do that!

A wee bogfest

Very boggy but lovely views every which way, so worth all the squelching and a soggy dog. DSC05467Strathspey.jpg DSC05475Strathspey.jpg DSC05466Creag Dhubh from Creag na Sanais.jpg On the return we spotted a mighty Hercules flying low through Badenoch and it even dipped its wings! Three goats and a Border Collie on Cairngorm

Beautiful Autumnal day with mist aplenty in the valley; great day for a high level walk. However walking in the mist and rain is not quite so pretty. We got soaked but still managed to get a good close up view of the dramatic corrie. A very pacey walk and a good way to spend a couple of hours. DSC02...
