Re: Bidein a'Choire Sheasgaich & Lurg Mhòr Transport

I was also passed by the Range Rover on the same day. Think we maybe chatted at the carpark in the morning. I thought the women in the bothy had been had when they relayed the story of paying for a lift!

Re: Bog factor

Beinn Chabhair. I remember being really glad it was frozen when I was there!

I’m thinking about Beinn Oss and Dubhcraig soon as the river will be nice and low.

Re: Enlightning times on the SGSR

Karen even in those circumstances you still apologised for the expletives you were about to utter  enjoyed reading this but my heart rate was up a bit again. My Garmin never recovered. Reckon the static has destroyed it. The rucksack thing is the official advice and guidance and it will act as ...

Re: Thunder and Lightning

I didn’t think it would but my Garmin watch self destructed during the storm so I wondered if there was anything more sinister.

Re: Thunder and Lightning

I just saw the above post and instantly went ‘Me too it was dreadful’ then realised of course because I was with you! We had a fair idea of what to do and sat it out successfully but it was amazing how many people just powered on through the worst of it and found it funny. We could see the f...

Re: Apple Watch

My partner has one. The battery life is a bit pants for a full day in the hills (5hours in GPS mode) but it does the job for shorter walks. It won’t give you an OS GR unless it’s connected to a phone either so your phone needs to be on. I’d say it’s a better smart watch than activity tracker. I have...

Re: Map reading course?

If you look up NNAS you can find a list of providers and it’ll list upcoming courses, locations and prices. Prices vary massively so worth checking.

Re: wild camping, about to try for first time, advice please

If it’s a new tent pitch it in the garden first. A lot of them you clip the inner inside and leave it clipped in forever more. Saves a few minutes which can make a big different in poor weather. Be aware of forecast for wind direction and pitch your door accordingly. More important the higher up you...

Second hello

Hello! Used to be a relatively active member here but have since let a new career and other distractions get in the way so it’s been a few years! Hoping to get back into the hills more often this summer and be a bit more active on WH again so thought I’d say hello to those I’ve never been in touch w...

Re: Which is the easier, Forcan or RoS?

Ring of Steall is longer but Forcan is more technically difficult. The bad step on FR can be bypassed but the material underfoot is quite loose so not quite hands in pocket territory. It’s a grade 2 but not sure Ring of Steall is graded? Someone may correct me. Both fantastic days out!

Quinags - Three ticks of the Corbett and Arthropod Variety

It's been a while (over a year) since I've posted a walk report here. Work commitments have taken over and I only have the time to read them now but it's the summer holidays now and we had an amazing trip to Assynt this week that I just had to share. A few days in the far North West? Who can ever sa...

Re: 5 years, 1 week and 1 compleat day

Great effort Simon! Well done. Glad to have been a part of the 282 bump ride! I was just talking about you to someone at the weekend. We were discussing the Aonach Eagach and I agreed to do it again. I said in conversation something like "the guy I was with that day can't be far away now."...
