Re: Vorlich and Stuc a'Chroin in a thunderstorm

I've not experienced the pleasure of a thunderstorm while hill-walking. I imagine it must be quite hair-raising - literally!

Re: Awesome Aonach Eagach

What a tremendous report and some of the best photos I've seen of the munros. You are all far braver than me. Some of those scrambly, steep bits gave me vertigo just looking at them on my laptop! :) I think I'll stick to the rolling type tundra of the Cairngorms etc!

Re: GLEN SHIEL RIDGE

I did 7 hills on that ridge a few years ago in good conditions and wouldn't have fancied that narrow bit in such poor condidtions either.

Re: The Day I Met Monty

A great wee expedition. Yes taking the tent always adds to the sense of adventure. I know how tedious it gets taking continual bearings in the mist at a high level, then looking back on the way out to see the same summits glistening in the late afternoon sun!

Re: An Socach, Glas Tulaichean, Carn an Righ, Beinn Iuthern

nice one Jonnoh, that's a good effort! have done Carn Bhac already so will probably tackle these four from Spittal of Glenshee, hopefully on a better day than you had! Thanks Mrssanta, yes I hope you do get a better day when you get to tackle them, but despite the weather its always a thoroughly en...

An Socach, Glas Tulaichean, Carn an Righ, Beinn Iuthern Mor

Inspired by reading some of the great reports about these hills, my good pal Andy and I finally got the opportunity to experience what many describe as tough and remote walking conditions over often featureless and boggy terrain – I wasn’t to be disappointed. We arrived at the car park in Inverey at...

Re: The Cairnwell Munros

I agree that the Cairnwell Hills are a pleasant walk. I'd heard all the negative stories and can agree but as you say, it is easy to ignore and focus on the wonderful views, tranquility and achievement of bagging 3 munros! :)

Re: Basking in the Ghlo

A cracking report LS  I loved my day out on Beinn a Ghlo and its always fab to hear someone else did too :D :D Thanks Polly. It is a lovely walk :D Did these 3 last August and loved them all, especially the ridge walk between Carn Liath and that unpronouncable one...... Took me about 7....

Re: Basking in the Ghlo

Sounds like a great wee expedition. I was up there 2 weeks ago in identical conditions. The ridge of Airgiod Beinn presented me with a bit of a surprise due to its rocky narrowness. The steep path down really took it out of my knees, particularly having done 5 munros and 40 kilometres over the 2 pre...

Re: Geal Charn (Monadhliath)

Very entertaining and well written report. I did 5 hills recently in the Cairngorms and also got wet feet after 'failing' to dryly cross a burn early on in the walk. Went right over my gaitors leaving me with a long squelchy round over bogs, peat hags and undulating ground in misty conditions. So mu...

Re: Beinn Iutharn Mhor

Aye its steep, but not as bad as other descents that I have made.. (like the end of Sail Liath) You'll be fine, there is even a kind of path.. :) Top tips :- After the first section of scree, head to your left and follow the grassy bit down instead of going through the rocks. Once down the steep bi...

Beinn Iutharn Mhor

I'm planning on doing Beinn Iutharn Mhor next week descending north towards Carn Bhac. I've read several reports on here and am a wee bit concerned about the descent due to the talk of loose scree and the steepness of the terrain. I was hoping someone might have some tips on the best way to tackle t...

Re: Waist high water and torrential rain......loved it!

I wish I could be as positive as you about getting so wet in those conditions! Good for you though and great report. Just one question, how steep is the steep side of Beinn Iuthern Mhor? I'm not that great with heights believe it or not!

Re: Recommendations for family walks in Northern Scotland

My girlfriend and I did this lovely walk a few weeks ago.

It was so peaceful and scenic and I'm sure your family would have a great time. Check out the link. Hope the weather is kind wherever you go.
