Weird Raven behaviour - bowling?!

Spotted two Raven on the NE ridge of Glas Tulaichean last weekend. They were repeatedly "bowling" a small, round rock down the east-facing icy slope, picking it up at the bottom and flying back up. They had a good look at us too while we were eating lunch. Anyone seen anything like this be...

Blair Atholl to Aviemore - a Cairngorms trail (85km, 2000m ascent). our_route.gpx This is a long distance walk through the centre of the Cairngorms National Park. Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

I had the same thought as you and asked the owner of the site if he would allow people to walk along the beach. He did concede the point, Personally I wouldnt have even asked that question. He doesnt have any right to deny it. his manner suggested he would not be too fond of us if we tried it! All ...

Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

Ramblers Scotland have been helpful. Sounds like there is a ongoing debate around what access rights exist over caravan sites (or similar), with the general view being: - There is a private area around each caravan, but this doesn't extend to the whole site - That access would generally extend to an...

Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

We did use to take the line marked in red to where it says NTL, but amended after the barrier went up. :? I did find you could squeeze under the fence but doing so may be too undignified for others  Thanks for letting me know - useful to know that there was historic access to the site, but tha...

Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

Isit not possible to just walk along the shore? They own nothing below the high tide mark and as far as I am aware have no right to fence off the foreshore. "The 2003 Act introduced a general right to roam for `everyone' over most land and inland water in Scotland, including canals and the for...

Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

For some reason this sort of thing makes me want to park at Sanna and walk along the shore for a camp on the beach at Portuairk. The google maps images are from 2010 and include a phone box and post box suggesting it is a public road to the beach. https://goo.gl/maps/crYCyidU7zAQziNG8 BigTed: the i...

Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

Though you can understand why they have done it, the NEDs have found Sanna and would be taking the ****, raving, camping on the beach with fires (and damaging the Machar) and generally being antisocial (as they have done at Sanna) potentially ruining their business if they gave them an inch. Sad bu...

Re: Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

I have got in touch with Highland Council for advice on this one. It's an expansive, sprawling caravan site that gets in the way of the most obvious route to the lighthouse and beach.

An interesting point, either way. Could apply to several locations (Achmelvich being the most obvious one).

Access at Carraig caravan site, Ardnamurchan

Just wondering if anyone has had access trouble at Carraig caravan site in Ardnamurchan, having had a issue there over the Easter weekend. Note that the WH route for the lighthouse from Portuairk avoids the site (I didn't consult WH before setting out!) https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/ar...

Found pole - Sgurr Dubh Mor (Skye)

We found a Leki walking pole just before the tricky scramble to the summit of Sgurr Dubh Mor. I'm in Edinburgh but happy to arrange postage etc.

Solo in September: The Cape Wrath Trail

Explanation During lockdown I have enjoyed a busy and exciting role with the Scottish Government, particularly during the opening salvos of the pandemic, but the long, lonely weekends started to get tiresome. I managed to take the edge off this by running, playing lots of COD Warzone, and watching ...

The West Highland Way in three long days

Explanation My annus horribilis , 2019, culminated with the third part of an awful trifecta: the destruction of my wonderful 1.2 Skoda Fabia; the munro-mobile, Corbett chariot, the A9 annihilator. Travel by train would thus be part of a happier 2020 in addition to a gradual acceptance of bothies, s...
