Re: Ben Avon on foot the whole way

Fabulous report.

This is my final Munro to do in the Cairngorms and I'll certainly use your walk report as a helpful guide.

Thanks so much. :D

Re: Last Munro for compleaters

This very topic has come up on a number of threads over the years. But always worth a dusting down I feel, as it's interesting to get folks thoughts on this. I don't expect I'll ever compleat. I don't have a head for heights, so that rules out about 30-40 scary / airy ridge walks. However, if I were...

Re: Am Fasarinen pinnacles, Liathach.

Depends. If you have a head for heights (I don't) then you should manage ok. It also depends on how experienced you are. I made the mistake of tackling Liathach as my 9th or 10th Munro. That was just crazy. Read my short write up here. The conditions are also important. If you're a relative newbie, ...

Re: Dundee-based newbie - can I do a Munro in an evening?

If you've got blisters and need to invest in socks, I'd 100% recommend "1000Mile" brand. They're double layered and specifically designed so you dont get blisters. They're about £18-20 a pair, but a sound investment. I'd echo what others have said about The Cairnwell and Carn Aosda for an ...

Re: Right to roam

I agree that the notion that it's ok to visit pubs and beer gardens, but not to wild camp is utterly bonkers. However, I'm not entirely convinced there's much of a story here tbh. I certainly dont see any sinister creeping movement to deny people the right to roam. The 'right to roam' (including the...

Re: Get it on

PS. Though if the weather is as crap this weekend as the forecasts are saying, then might I recommend.. "Rain" or"Yellow Submarine" by The Beatles? Or "Here Comes the Rain Again" by The Eurythmics? Or "Its Raining Men" by The Weather Girls? Or "Why Does i...

Re: Wild camping between Creag Mhor & Beinn Heasgarnich

If you are planning to do this pair over two days with a camp did you consider starting at Pubil? I did this, had a wonderful morning walk along Loch Lyon, pitched the tent, ascended the ridge above Coire Ban Beag (pathless but easy going) and meandered over these two hills, back to tent for supper,...

Re: Wild camping between Creag Mhor & Beinn Heasgarnich

Apologies. Poor choice of words on my part. Well pointed out.

They're relatively 'unpopular' as opposed to 'dull'... doubtless due to the boggy terrain.

Wild camping between Creag Mhor & Beinn Heasgarnich

I'm looking to do these two (allegedly dull!) hills very soon. I know I can do them easily within a normal walking day.... But, having just come out of lockdown, I'm looking to pull an overnighter with a spot of wild camping. I really want to take my time, soak it up and just 'be'. Thing is, this is...

Re: Go Outdoors face administration

Hope gman isn’t right about TISO as I worked there for the first five years they were open in Perth before I retired ( that was 4 years ago ). Yes, they’re not the cheapest of shops but it would be a shame to see them taken over by someone like JD. We need to keep as wide a variety of outdoor retai...

Re: Hare today, gone tomorrow.

I guess you've got to take the rough with the smooth. On the one hand, no parliamentary scrutiny for this particular piece of legislation; on the other, legislation guaranteeing the most forward thinking and liberal outdoors access anywhere in the world. And don't get me started on the Greens. Hardl...

Re: Rescue needed?

Yeah, it was the weather conditions on Saturday that caught my eye. It was glorious here in Fife. As others have said, we dont know the full details. Maybe the two walkers didnt have enough water, and felt weakened through dehydration. We've all made that mistake. Maybe there was a twisted ankle inv...

Changed days indeed, when a MRT, backed by the twee society out there, resorts to publicly shaming folk.
