Re: tracksuit and trainers on Snowdon

Organ donors, excellent! :D You're so right Caberfeidh. Let's all vote for an "opt-out" instead of the present "opt-in" system for organ donation. If they can't even prepare themselves properly for the hills they're not likely to have filled in a form which will benefit someone e...

Hogmanay

Where are you planning to be at Hogmanay?

I'm hoping (weather permitting) to spend it at one of my favourite Sutherland bothies, was there last year and met the grandchildren of a man who was born there. Has anyone else got plans for a special place to take in the New Year?

Re: karrimor full length self inflating ultralight mat

I've got a Vango Ultralite "self inflating" mat and have found it very good in cold weather, although I do have to keep shoving my dogs off it as they like it too! It cost me £30 when I bought it. I've found that it needs a wee bit of blowing up though so I don't really consider it "s...

Re: A decent read

If you want humour then try "The Complete Doctor Stories (The Ridiculous Mountains & Nothing So Simple As Climbing)" by GJF Dutton (ISBN 1-898573-21-2), or "The Joy Of Hillwalking" by Ralph Storer.

Re: Bad hill days

You mean you didn't even carry out the rubbish? I bet you skived off chopping wood, sweeping up and rearranging the furniture too. Youth of today, no sense of responsibility! A real bothy rat would have chewed their own arm off and carried on regardless! Well Caberfeidh, the rubbish was there when ...

Re: Bad hill days

Thanks Caberfeidh but that's one offer I'm happy to turn down, my wrist may be slightly squint now but I can still use my hand! What really annoys me was that the next visitor to the bothy wrote some nasty things in the bothy book accusing me of faking it so I wouldn't have to carry out the rubbish ...

Re: Bad hill days

Not a bad hill day but a bad bothy night Visiting my favourite Sutherland bothy with my two wee dogs to spend a couple of days chilling out and cutting peat. At 3 a.m I needed to go for a pee so put on my head torch and set out for the ladies room that wasn't there. On my way back to the bothy I tri...

Re: Lightweight Backpacks

Thanks to everybody for your advice, I've managed to modify my current pack to 1.5kg so have decided to stick with it as it's comfortable.

Lightweight Backpacks

Has anyone got any information on GoLite backpacks? I need a lightweight pack of at least 50L capacity as I've to carry food for my 2 Jack Russells as well as my own gear. Preferably a maximum weight of 1.5Kg as I'm trying to lighten my gear so I can keep stravaiging ( have just been diagnosed with ...

Re: Back on the trail again!

After three days in a bothy eating noodles and dehydrated food I don't care what it started out as, as long as it tasted good I'd eat it! Had a great time though, weather wet and windy but at least I didn't break any bones this time. I read somewhere that human meat was known as "Long Pig"...

Re: Back on the trail again!

Now, if you'd only let me amputate at the time, it would have healed up weeks ago and you'd have been able to get out more. Don't you feel a chump?! How would I tie my bootlaces with one hand? I managed to tie the sling using my right hand and my teeth, but even a self sufficient woman like me has ...

Back on the trail again!

After 7 weeks of enforced absence from the wild places due to a broken wrist I've got the go-ahead from my doctor to resume my stravaiging. I'm heading up to Sutherland on Thursday and would just like to thank everybody concerned with this site for helping keep me sane during my confinement. :D
