Garbh Bheinn (Leven)

Very misty when I got up so used this as a reason not to do the longer walk we had planned. It cleared up to a hazy dry day With glimpses of sun and still very mild for Feb. Our normal crack of noon start. The hill disappointed to start with steep, scrappy, boggy but then became exactly what I hoped...

Garbh Bheinn of Ardgour

With G. Drive round by Loch Eil, back on the Corran Ferry. Superb hill. Craggy but not over scrambly. Not on the best of form But got there in just over guidebook time. A few others about (prone to revealing their bums!) including two climbers on the crag immediately below the summit . Came down the...

Meall a Phiuibill

With G. Staying at the Hayloft in Caol on the edge of Fort William. Ignored the normal route as the forecast was for increasing wind (it didn't really increase to much) and went up from Fassfern. Pleasant walk up through forest by the stream - quite open and scenic. Lots of frogs! Up a track and the...

With G. Stayed in van at the bottom of the route by the falls so managed to set off at the crack of 9am. Through forest etc and on to steep hillside. Good views of Ben Lui. Back down in the forest by the time the rain started and back in the car by the time it was heavy. On to Fort William and our A...

Re: Snowdon - Help and Advice please

Worth looking at the Snowdon Sherpa bus routes and timetable. Good value, allows you to link up the start points for any of the main routes up the mountain and removes the hassle and cost of car parks. it is a very busy mountain summit . As others have said the classic horseshoe over Crib Goch etc i...

Mullaghcarn

Trial walk for the Parkrun B team evening out. Had done the Ldies Trail the previous evening and I was misled by the similar type rather, 10 degrees, to assume it would be equally warm. Mistake! Git very cold in the wind and damp in the heavy mist and drips from the trees and the mast. We weren't th...
