Madness on the Monadhliath

It's not often that Mum and the girls want to go away, but when they do, Dad and I always seize the rare opportunity and go very ambitious with where we can go with a weekend. So this time, we decided to do the Corrieyairack Pass on mountain bikes like we had last September, but this time we decided...

Completing the Cuillin back at the start

If you'd told us in December last year on Beinn a' Bheithir that the next proper munro-bagging outing for both of us together would be the Cuillins in October, we'd have thought you were kidding. But unfortunately running races and the great Scottish weather has meant that us fair-weather-walkers ha...

The Hill of Stake - a Story of Bikes and a Bog

We have an afternoon free, so it's time to do our usual cycle off the train, which is usually along a FLAT, TARMAC TRACK (e.g. Alloa to Dunfermline, Kilsyth to Glasgow). So, time to find a nice new route, following the usual brief, huh? However, this cycle/walk is on walkhighlands, which means that ...

The Clouds are Clearing on the Campsies!

So, with an afternoon to spare, me and Dad decided to head up to the Campsies for my first time to climb Dumgoyne and Earl's Seat. We parked at the edge of the car park just before the distillery as you come from the south. Got our gear on like usual, with me putting on my new walking boots 8) 8) 8)...

Sun, Skies and Snow on the Hill of the Thunderbolt

Our weather window for the Christmas holidays (and last for 2014) was becoming apparent this weekend, so with permission from mum to head for the hills, I proposed a shortlist for dad of munros we could do. He picked Beinn a' Bheithir, so that's what we decided to do. We decided we'd try the Walkhig...

Cloud Inversion on Ben Lomond

So, we have a free morning to go and climb up a hill, so we need to make it easy. Obvious choice - Ben Lomond. Although Ben Lomond is easy, is it not a bit boring and also absolutely mobbed, though, I have to ask Dad, who's been up it twice already. He says I suppose so, so I tell him I want to go u...

Re: Little Miss Mushroom Conquers The Craigie

Unfortunately, neither Little Miss Mushroom nor any of her family knew anything about the mushrooms seen or any others, and preferred looking at them as well. Safety first!

Following in Danny MacAskill's Steps on the Cuillin

We didn't actually climb the In Pinn :( as we didn't have the gear, which means a bike managed to get further than us ! Because this was our most ambitious walk on the Cuillin Ridge so far (I'd been dreaming about them for months), we didn't know how long we'd take, so headed out as early as possibl...

Wild Glamping on the Mamores - Day 2

So, after yesterday's antics and the issue of Stob Coire a' Chairn, we thought we'd sleep on it ( 8) geddit geddit 8) ) and in doing so we had injected a new life into ourselves. So, before breakfast, we headed off to do An Gearanach. Before which, we had to see what the weather was like... 39.jpg 4...

Wild Glamping on the Mamores - Day 1

The time had come for my first ever wild camp this weekend, and me and dad decided we were going to do all 10 mamores  over the course of the weekend. To get it clear early on, we didn't  , we'd have to cope with a mere 8 over the weekend  , 5 today. So, we arrived with the bags ...

Re: Terrible jokes on Beinn Bhuidhe

Thanks :) We were saying on the way in that bikes would have sped up the walk in, though maybe we concentrated on our surroundings more because we were walking? On the way back bikes would have been nice to speed things up, but I don't know whether our legs would have managed! Shame with the woodlan...
