Back to CCP

After all the rain of the last few days I switched from my normal route in Glen Esk back to the old go to route from the Cally Car Park in Dunkeld. For the first time this year there is a positive reading on the temperature gauge as I set off just after 7am. All the chalets seem to be finished and s...

Re: To beaver or not to beaver - that is the question

Hi DP I lived in Blairgowrie for 11 years from 1992 and never once considered doing this walk - it looks Ok!! Up until I got fixated with Glen Esk two years ago, my go to route was near Dunkeld. I used to start from the car park in the dark about 40 minutes before dawn. Going through the woods at th...

Re: love triangle on Toll Creagach

How good did that look??

I've walked low level in Glen Affric but never climbed any of the hills - looks like I've missed out.

Sunday was a great day to be out :D

Back On The Rollercoaster

Back to Glen Esk for another day on the rollercoaster :D A 7am start from Tarfside with a temperature of -2 but with the knowledge that now that it was the end of March things would warm up at some point during the walk. I chose this route as this was the one really good day during the Easter break ...

Re: A storm in a Cromarty teacup

Hi DP That looked like a good short walk. Didn't really understand your comment about poo bins as I noticed a lot of tree branches in your photos    I took a photo specially for you a few months back on Mull, but maybe you missed it? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=122130 I did miss it! I...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

I'm glad to find others own multiple pairs of Bridgedale coolmax liner socks and have had them for years - not just me then! I find them great and hard wearing. If another poster has had them fall apart then either it's a bad batch or quality has deteriorated - I've had mine for nigh on 20 years. I...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

One thing to remember is that most boots and shoes are manufactured in European sizes, and then converted to a UK size. This means that it's entirely possible that you actually are a UK size 11, but that the conversion is a bit off because UK and European sizes aren't exactly equivalent. Maybe the ...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

Until recently I've always used the Bridgedale Coolmax liners, which to me have lasted ages. However I now use some slightly thicker "active" socks from Decathlon. These have a little more thickness in key areas. Problem is, I can't find them on their website so hard to recommend them! Si...

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

I've been using liner socks for over 40 years for similar reasons to you. Far and away the best I have found have been Helly Hansen. I had three pairs that I rotated for many years. When they finally wore out I tried various makes most of which either didn't work well or wore out far too quickly (a...

I've never tried two pairs of walking socks, always gone for the liner and a walking sock on top. Might try the double walking sock if I can't find what I'm looking for.

Thanks Dave

Re: Recommendations for Liner Socks

The problem with the foot sliding forward in a boot is (as I see it) too much volume in the boot above the foot and around the ankle which means one can't tighten the boot sufficiently to keep the foot in place. There are two possible solutions, extra socks (always has been my solution as I have sl...
